“Yes, you are,” he insists.

“What if this is all a fucking trap? The police could show up here, find the body, and you’ll get arrested for a murder you didn’t commit.”

“Well, if that happens, it wouldn’t do much good for all three of us to get arrested, now would it?”

He’s completely calm, as if we’re talking about the weather or an upcoming fishing trip. But I don’t fucking like this. I don’t like it at all.

“H,” he presses. “You’ve both protected me, now it’s my turn to protect you. Go. When Mali gets done with work, she’ll let you know, and you’ll drop Laiken off at her place. Then we’ll get rid of this thing.”

I still don’t want to, but I don’t think he’s going to take no for answer. “What if they come back?”

He reaches behind him and pulls a gun out of his waistband, putting it on top of the bar. “Let them try.”

THE WHOLE WAY BACKto my place, I make Laiken drive ahead of me. That way, I can always keep an eye on her. If that means cutting a few people off and getting the finger from an eighty-year-old lady, so be it. I even end up running a red light, and the flash of a camera tells me I’ll be getting a ticket in the mail for that one.

Thanks a lot, Lai.

As we walk into the house we shared, things feel tense. It could be the almost-kiss Cam interrupted, or it could be the way she’s looking at everything. Her eyes linger on each spot, like she can’t look at it and not remember all the sexual things we’ve done all over this place.

I know because I do it, too.

It’s one of the reasons staying here is so difficult.

I was good the night she showed up here, drunk off her ass. A total gentleman. I carried her to bed, tucked her in, and came downstairs to lie awake on the couch all night. But this time, she’s not drunk.

And I don’t feel like being a gentleman.

She’s standing in front of the stairs as I step up behind her, pressing my front against her back. “You’re thinking about it, aren’t you?”

Her breath hitches. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Sure you do,” I murmur. “You’re thinking about how we stood right here as I bent you over and buried myself inside of you.”

Putting my hands on her shoulders, I spin us around so she’s facing the kitchen.

“And when you look at that island, you picture the way I sat you on it and ate you out until you screamed.”

I glide my hand down her arm, and her head falls back against my chest. Her breathing quickens. From this angle, I can see right down her shirt, and I amdyingto get my mouth on her.

“Imagine if we went upstairs,” I tease. “The things you’d remember then.”

She finds her nerve and turns around, using all the force she can manage to push me away. “You walked out last time and left me standing there half naked in a storage room.”

Yeah, I should’ve known she was going to throw that back in my face. But even with the angry look in her eyes, I smirk.

“I did,” I admit. “And you walked out and left me sound asleep in our bed, hopeful for the first time in weeks.”

“I’ve apologized for that. Multiple times.”

I look her up and down, taking my time as I admire every gorgeous inch of her, but God, she’s infuriating. “So, what? You want me to apologize?”

A growl rumbles in the back of her throat at the sarcastic tone of my voice. She looks like she wants to fight me, but instead, she walks closer and jumps into my arms. I catch her with my hands on her ass as her legs wrap around my waist.

“No,” she says. “I want you to fuck me.”

NowthatI can do.

Pressing her against the wall, I crash my lips into hers. She drags her nails up my back as our tongues meet in the middle. I swear, I could get off just from the taste of her. She arches her hips to grind against me and the moans she lets out tells me she’s just as desperate for it as I am.
