“The fuck she will,” I growl.

All three of them look at me with shocked expressions on their faces, but I don’t care. That motherfucker had her alone. He could’ve fucking killed her. She’s got a three-inch gash across her forehead, for fuck’s sake. If any of them think I’m letting her out of my damn sight, they’ve got another think coming.

“She’s coming to stay with me, and I don’t want to hear a goddamn word about it,” I tell them.

Cam looks to Laiken for her approval, and he gets it when she nods. I step closer to her and put my hands on her cheeks, lifting her head so I can get a good look at the wound. The paramedics already cleaned it up but it still looks pretty bad. Which means I can only imagine what it looked like before.

“Are you okay?”

She stares up at me. “I don’t know.”

Fucking hell. She starts to get upset again, and no amount of fear could stop me from wrapping my arms around her right now.

“Come here,” I say, pulling her against me while being careful not to hurt her. “We’ll figure it out. Okay? You’re safe. I promise.”

She leans the side of her head against me and finds the comfort she’s looking for in me. Not Cam. Not Mali.Me. Which is exactly where she fucking belongs—in my arms.

Everything feels on edge, all of us knowing exactly what could have happened tonight. If Laiken didn’t understand the importance of her not being alone somewhere before, I’m sure she does now. But I can’t even say I’m mad at her right now.

I can’t be.

Not when I’m just so fucking glad she’s okay.

“Holy shit,” Mali breathes.

Laiken’s brows furrow as she slowly pulls her head off me and looks over at her best friend. “What?”

But she doesn’t need to answer, because all three of us follow her line of sight across the street. I almost don’t recognize him at first, standing there with hands in his pockets and an amused grin on his face. But it’s him.

It’sdefinitelyhim.

“When the fuck did he get back?” Cam asks.

Isaac sees us looking at him and he pulls one hand out to finger wave at us tauntingly. My jaw locks as my hands clench into fists.

“I’m going to fucking kill him,” I growl.

But as I go to take a step toward him, Laiken rushes to grab my arm and Cam stops me with two hands on my chest.

“Are you crazy? There are like five cop cars here,” he tells me. “You won’t even get a finger on him before they lock your ass up.”

He’s right.Fuck.I know he’s right. But I almost want to risk it. Seeing him watching the aftermath he caused, like he’s proud of it…I want to slam his head into the curb and use his blood to paint the street red. But that would mean risking leaving Laiken alone, andthatI’m not willing to do.

I keep an eye on him until he finally decides to walk away. It’s not long after that when Laiken is cleared to leave by the police and paramedics. She thanks them and stands up. I wrap an arm around her and start leading her to my truck.

“Wait, what about my car?”

Mali nods for her to go. “I’ll drive it there. Cam can bring me back to get mine later. Go with Hayes.”

Yeah, that girl is a godsend.

I’m not willing to let her out of my reach right now. Not after this shit. Cam comes over and puts her things in the back of my truck, tapping the back of it twice to let me know he’s done. I pull away from the scene of the crime and start heading toward my place.

“H,” she breathes. “I really am sorry. I can’t believe I—”

I cut her off by shushing her softly. “Not now.”

My only concern at the moment is getting her home and making sure she’s okay. I mentally don’t have room to worry about anything else right now. None of it matters.
