“I’m so sorry!” he whispers, clearly knowing that death is on the horizon.

“You have… offended… my cat,” I growl.

“Ohhh fuck,” someone in the audience says.

“RIP, my man, RIP,” Brandon says before giving him a hearty pat on the back that sends him stumbling closer to me, which is the absolute last thing the man wanted.

“Would you like a final word?” I ask.

The man’s eyes are huge. “I’m very sorry.”

“Don’t say it to me, man. Say it to my Balzac.”

He turns to the cat. “I’m so very sorry, ma’am.”

“That was like… more than one word!” Brandon announces.

“I am too,” I say as I lift him a little, but before I can absolutely obliterate him in the name of Her Majesty Zacia, Valerie reaches us.

“The video showing proof of what happened is out. We’re doing a thorough search for any super with the power to freeze time, but if you saw Hannah attack…”

“It could also be someone who can manipulate thoughts or… visuals,” August says.

“Right! For now, we’re going to have Landon give a statement explaining everything that happened from his point of view,” Valerie says as she ushers me toward my house.

“What do I do with this guy?” I ask as I point at the man I’m dragging after me with my power.

“Let him go!” Valerie says, which is horribly disappointing. How will people ever learn if I don’t go through with my threats?

“But I don’t want to,” I say as I proceed to drag him into the house. He desperately grabs onto the doorframe like he thinks that’ll save him. With one extra tug, he’s pulled inside and set on his feet.

“What are you doing with him?” Valerie asks.

“He’s going to make me chocolate chip cookies. Go on, now. Kitchen’s that way,” I say as I point.

The man nods as he hurries off.

Valerie sighs but sends one of her men after him. Of course she’s going to burst my bubble. She doesn’t understand that you don’thaveto turn the other way when people are mean to you. You can enslave them and force them to make you food. “Make sure he doesn’t poison them. I want extra chocolate in mine.”

I grin at her, pleased with her decision, but she’s refusing to look me in the eyes.

“Anyway. We’re working on who we want to deliver the news—” Valerie starts.

“I want Fishboy,” I decide.

Valerie stares at me. “Who?”

“The reporter I tossed in the river. We’re tight, you know?”

She eyes me for a moment before nodding. “That’s ingenious. Use someone who you’ve had difficult relations with in the past to show that you’re not truly evil.”

“No, I actually said itjust because I wanted to torture him more but…”

She doesn’t care. So that’s how I end up stuck in an interview with Fishboy and Nancy, but at least it’s made better with my extremely delicious chocolate chip cookies my new chef made me.

I willingly describe everything that happened, even though I’d rather be doing absolutely anything else. Once I’m finished, Valerie reassures us that she will take it from there, and for now, we are to “lay low” which she said means that we are not to blow up anything, crush anything, fling anything living, etc. And that I must let my new chef go.

The list is quite long and dreadful, but I grudgingly promise to listen because it finally meansbook time.
