“Hey, you want something from Tino’s?” Mark asks as he leaves.

“Get an extra-large of whatever you were planning on getting. I’ll give you money when you get back.”

“Cool.”

Mark gets in his truck and heads to the pizza parlor, but as he’s backing out, I glimpse a figure across the street. By the time Mark’s pulled away, it’s gone, but I know who it was. Kaspian is watching me again.

I continue to stare in the direction he was in, blowing smoke into the air. He’s probably inside the flower shop since it has reflective windows. I can’t see in, but he can see me.

After I put out my cigarette and drop the butt in the metal trash can, I pull out my phone and send him a message.

Me:I know you’re watching me.

It doesn’t take longfor him to reply.

Kaspian:What are you talking about?

I don’t bother responding, choosing instead to walk back inside where it’s warm. Willow’s on the phone when I pass her desk and head to the bathroom to wash my hands. When I make my way back to the front, I come to a stop when I see Kaspian in the lobby holding a small bouquet of flowers.

He grins at me.

Willow hangs up the phone and stands, rounding the desk. “Oh my gosh, are these for me?”

Kaspian hands them over. “Of course. I had fun last night.”

Willow leans over the flowers to inhale their scent. “Me too. Let me see if I can find something in the breakroom to put these in. Be right back.”

She rushes past me and into the back, leaving me alone with Kas.

“So, you weren’t watching me. You were watching her,” I say.

“Jealous?” he asks with a smirk.

“No. Curious.”

He cocks his head. “Curious about what?”

“Your motives.”

Because yesterday, after I found his little box of secrets, it’s become clear Kaspian seems to have ulterior motives. He’s even more untrustworthy now.

“Motives?” he muses, brows furrowed, playing dumb. “I don’t know what you mean.”

I chance a glance behind me to make sure nobody’s coming. “What do you want with Willow?”

“Why does it matter?”

“It only matters if you’re going to do something that risks us getting caught.”

Kaspian moves closer, lowering his voice to a whisper. “I’m not as stupid as you may think.”

“I never said you were.”

His eyes travel the length of my body and it stirs something in me. He sinks his teeth into his lower lip and meets my gaze again. His eyes are full of lust. “I want to fuck you.”

I wasn’t expecting those words, and my heart thumps in my chest. “That’s nice,” I say, downplaying how that statement made me feel. “I want to know what you’re up to.”

“Why do you think I’m up to anything?”
