He rolls his eyes but steps back and lets me inside.

“What do you want, Kaspian?”

“I can’t just stop by for a little afternoon delight?” I say with a grin, dropping to his couch. “It’s been a while.”

He comes around to sit in the armchair to my left. He’s wearing light blue jeans and a white T-shirt, looking like he stepped out of an Old Navy ad. I can’t help but laugh at the wholesome image.

“What’s so funny?”

“Nothing. You look good.”

“Right. So, what do you want?”

I sigh. “Can’t just talk, can you?”

He leans forward. “Oh, sure. You wanna talk? Because I have plenty of questions.”

I run my thumb along my jaw. “Oh yeah?”

“You can’t start obsessing over Willow. She’s too close to me, and not in anI-have-feelings-for-hertype of way. I mean, if you start wanting to follow her around and get her to fall for your bullshit charm and lopsided smiles, just to get mad at her and kill her, we’re going to have a problem. Police will question everyone at my job. They’ll question me more because I’ve been seen out with her. I cannot have the cops looking into me. You understand? If you keep doing this shit, you’re going to make me do something you don’t want me to do.”

My lips turn up on one side. “You like my lopsided smiles, don’t you?”

“I’m fucking serious, Kaspian.”

I exhale and stretch my legs out in front of me, crossing them at the ankles and draping an arm over the back of the couch. “Why do you think I’m following her?”

“It’s what you do.”

I lift a shoulder. “I suppose you’re right but hear me out. Your friend Willow is followingme.”

He scoffs, sitting back in his chair. “You’re delusional.”

“I’m serious. She shows up where I am, not the other way around.”

“Why would she be following you? Think she wants your dick that bad?”

I put my hand on my crotch. “It’s pretty fucking good. Want a taste?”

His eyes drop to my lap, watching my hand move as I drag my palm across my shaft. He definitely wants it.

“You said she asked you out.”

Well, guess I’m not getting a blow job right now.“Yeah.”

“She told me you asked her out.”

I shake my head. “I don’t know why she’d say that.”

“You realize I don’t find you trustworthy at all, and therefore have a hard time believing what you’re saying is actually the truth.”

“Fair, but I don’t know how to prove it.”

“Maybe it’s just coincidences. I run into my neighbor fairly often, but it’s because it’s a small town,” he says.

I shake my head. “Nah. This is different.”

“Sure,” he says with a sigh.
