I drive home and debate on showing up. On one hand, I hate clubs and people and having to pretend I’m enjoying myself when I’d rather be at my house, but on the other hand, Kaspian will be there, and I wonder if he’ll actually speak words to me.

* * *

I show up late, wanting to minimize my time in the club. The group has pulled two tables together and while half of them are in the seats, the others are standing around, half dancing and half drinking. Mostly empty glasses litter the tables along with soaked napkins that seem to have been used to clean a spill.

My eyes find Kaspian in the chair at the end, his left leg stretched out while his other leg remains under the table. He’s slouched comfortably in the wooden chair, his arm slung around the back of the one next to him. The one that Willow sits in.

His dark eyes are on me, a slight smirk tugging on his lips. My cock twitches just from looking at him. His hair is cut short on the sides, rocking a new fade that leads to spiky textured pieces of hair up top.

Willow turns and spots me, her eyes growing in size as she leaps up and runs to give me a hug.

“You made it!”

I wrap my arms around her, my eyes never leaving Kaspian’s. “I did. Sorry I’m late.”

“Better late than never,” Kas says from his seat.

“Want a drink?” Willow asks.

“I’ll grab one.”

“But I told you I’d buy your first one. Don’t make me a liar. Tell me what you want and I’ll go get it.”

“Just a beer is fine.”

“Type?”

“Buyer’s choice,” I say with a wink.

Once she’s gone, I take a few steps to get to the table and say hi to Jason and Samantha who are sitting on the other end before I pull out the chair across from Kaspian and sit down.

We stay locked on each other for a while before he speaks. “Glad to see you haven’t left town yet.”

I cock a brow at him. “Why would I leave?”

“You tell me. You’re the one looking up places in, what was it? Iowa?”

I run the pad of my thumb across the side of my chin as I lean in. “And how would you know that, Jasper?”

His nostrils flare as he clenches his jaw. “You think I just fixed your phone when you brought it to me? I know everything you do because of that phone.”

I shake my head. “Of fucking course.”

He grins and holds his arms out to the side. “Come on. Are you really surprised?”

“I suppose not.”

He reaches up and adjusts the small hoop on his nose. “I guess you’ve been looking me up on your computer because I didn’t see that.”

I nod. “Jasper Castillo. Nice name.”

“Don’t say that name again,” he says, his lips barely moving.

“That’s your name, though.” I glance around to make sure everyone is still preoccupied. “The son of Salvador. A cop.” I laugh. “I find that amusing.”

“I’m glad you do.”

“Why did Jasper become Kaspian? That’s what I want to know.”
