“Whoa, whoa,” he replies. “What are you talking about? What happened?”

Willow cries some more. “I don’t know.”

I peek around the corner, careful to stay hidden, and find him holding her in a hug as she weeps on his shoulder.

“It’s gonna be okay,” he offers. A promise he can’t make.

“I just want to forget. Even if it’s only for a little bit,” she says right before she throws her arms around his neck and plants her lips on his.

ChapterTwenty-Eight

Iwatch with confusion for just a second before Quintin gently grabs her by the shoulders and pushes her back. “Wait.”

She wipes her cheek, looking at him with pain in her eyes. “I’m sorry. God, I feel so stupid.”

“It’s okay,” he says patiently.

“Ezra,” she says with a sniffle. “Do you think people can change who they are?”

The question feels like it came straight out of left field. The pause before he answers lets me know it catches him off guard.

“If they want to, they can. You can always become a better person if you want to change.”

She shakes her head, eyes frantic and wild. “No, not like that. I mean…Ugh. I don’t know. Never mind.” Willow waves her hand in the air before taking a couple steps toward the door. She turns around and looks at him. “Do you think you’re a good judge of character?”

“I’d like to think so,” he replies.

She gives him a sad, pitiful smile. “Be careful, Ezra.” And then she turns around and leaves.

I wait several seconds before I join him.

“What the fuck was that about?” I ask.

He looks over his shoulder at me. “I don’t know.”

Sauntering toward him, I say, “You know, I’ve come to find something out.”

“What’s that?” he asks, turning to face me fully.

Slipping my fingers into the waistband of his sweats, I tug him into me. “I’m no longer blasé about you being with a woman.”

His lips pull up into a smirk. “Hmm.”

“Mm,” I moan, leaning closer. “I didn’t appreciate seeing that kiss.”

Quintin stares back at me, unflinching. “It didn’t last long.”

“Now that I’ve had a taste of your mouth, I don’t want it on anyone else.”

“So, lick the taste of her lips from mine.”

I don’t hesitate. My tongue darts out and dances softly across his bottom lip before dragging across the top one. I press a quick kiss to his mouth before I ease back.

“Better.”

“Much.” He studies me, eyes traveling down my naked torso. “Get some clothes on and let’s eat.”

“I could leave them off and you could still eat.”
