“Any idea who it is?”

“No, but put out feelers if you can.”

“Okay.”

“Let’s go get this girl. She’s gonna be mad.”

“Don’t bother me none,” he says, following me out of the office.

“Stay in the living room. I’ll be back,” I say, heading for the hall.

I open the door and watch as she jumps.

“Excuse you,” she squeals, sitting up in bed.

“This is my house. I will not knock on any doors. Come on, your bodyguard is here.”

“You mean my babysitter,” she murmurs.

“Stop acting like a child. He’s there for your own good.”

When she climbs out from under the covers, I notice she has her black dress on again, and as soon as my gaze drops to her legs, she shifts.

“I wasn’t gonna leave wearing your clothes. This is the only thing I have that fits.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

She grabs her shoes and follows me downstairs where Reynaldo waits.

“Rey, this is Mariella.” I turn and pin her with a look. “Make sure you behave.”

Mariella puts her shoes on the floor and steps into them before giving Rey a brief glance, passing him to go sit on a bench in the foyer.

“I’ll be in touch,” he says before turning on his heel and walking toward Mariella. “Come on, girl. No need to look so depressed. I’m the best one in the group.”

“Group?” she questions, standing up and piercing me with a stern look. “Interesting wording.”

“I’m also the most interesting. Now, let’s go.”

She reluctantly follows Rey out of the house, giving me one final look before the door closes.

ChapterEleven

It’s nearly four o’clock when I get a text from Rey saying they’ll be at the casino early because Mariella is bored.

I put my phone in my pocket and turn to Khalid. “Rey’s bringing her now.”

“I found out there was another guy there last night. He split when he saw his partner get taken in by security. He was out front when everyone arrived, so he might’ve spotted you two.”

“All right, well, what can we do?”

“What we’ve been doing, but you need to get to work fast. Shit’s escalating and we need this to go in our favor. We have to put an end to them before our business goes up in flames. I know you wanted to do this a certain way, but I’m thinking you’re just gonna have to go full force. Fuck it.”

I sigh, rubbing my forehead. “Yeah, I got it.”

“Now, this new gang. We don’t think they’re anybody important, probably some new group trying to make a name for themselves by going after the Irish, but we need to protect our allyship. If they hit the right spot, they’re gonna get our guns, and we’re gonna lose out on a lot of money. I’m sending Tom to look into it.”

“Okay. I’m heading up to the conference room. I’ll talk to Mariella when she gets here and let you know what the plan is moving forward.”
