“Don’t try anything. I know Donati’s here because one of your little friends at the deli pointed me in this direction when I pointed this,” I say, shaking the gun, “at his cock.”

I know they’re both armed and would love nothing more than to take me out, but they’ll have consequences if they kill me right now. I walk past them, gun still staring them in the face until I get to the office in the back.

Opening the door, I find Donati at his desk talking to someone on the phone.

“I’ll call you back.” He slams the phone down. “What the fuck is this?”

I turn around, feeling the breath of the fucking minions on my neck. “You mind?”

Donati waves them back. “It’s fine.”

They slowly turn and make their way back to the front while I slam the door closed. I tuck my gun back in my pants and approach the desk.

“We need to talk.”

“You could’ve called, Moreno. No need for all the dramatics.”

“You know Frederico?” I ask.

He nods, a small sigh leaving his lips. “What happened?”

“He known for making unnecessary trouble?”

“What does it matter to you?”

“Did you have him follow Mariella?”

He sits up straighter. “No, why?”

“Because he’s fucking following her, Donati. You tell me to stay away from her, and now he’s at her side. Did you want me out of her life so she’d be vulnerable to your men, because I swear to God—”

“I told you I didn’t want her involved in this life,” he says, standing up. “I meant it.”

“Yeah, well I trust you as far as I can throw you, and you’re a fat fuck, Donati.”

He cuts me a look. “Where did you see them?”

“At my fucking casino on Thursday. I questioned her about it yesterday.”

“I told you to stay away,” he says through clenched teeth.

“And I did, until she’s in my place of business with one of your fucking soldiers. You’re lucky I didn’t act irrationally, because I immediately assumed you’d orchestrated that. I could’ve killed him and you. Come to find out, he also moved into her apartment building.”

His brows furrow, eyes bouncing around as he tries to understand what’s happening. At least he looks just as concerned as I feel.

“I’ll figure this out.”

“Or I will. I’m not going to wait for you to do an internal investigation, Donati. He’s inserting himself in her life. I warned her, but she won’t realize how serious this situation is. I don’t know what he knows or what he plans, but I won’t let him hurt her.”

He looks at me. “You actually care about her.”

I clench my jaw. “I will kill him, and this is your warning.”

“I’ll call him in today.”

“He may know who she is to you. If I was able to find out, who’s to say others can’t?”

“I will find everything out today, Moreno, and then I will call you.”
