Or at least someone to share life with.

We do have someone now,her tiger said confidently.

That’s if he actually likes us.

What’s not to like?

Opal chewed her lip nervously. He was her mate, but that didn't mean they would just effortlessly become a part of each other's life.

“Opal.” His voice was smooth gravel behind her.

The warmth of his breath brushed the back of her neck. Goosebumps surfaced on her arms, and she fought the urge to shiver. When had he snuck up behind her?

“Benton, hi,” she said, trying to keep the shock from her eyes. “Did you get the chance to look around?”

“Yeah, I did some wandering around. Everything looks great.”

“Do you think you're prepared for tomorrow?” she asked.

A smile curled at the edges of his lips, his voice low and coaxing. "How about I tell you over dinner?"

Opal felt the heat rise to her face. She refused to look away from him. She wouldn't allow him to see how much she liked him already. She was his mate, but she didn't want to be easy, either.

Yes,her tiger said excitedly.

“I'm sure you have better things to do,” she said, trying to steady her heart rate.

He didn't ask you,she shot back.

Technically, he did, and I vote yes …

“Actually, I don't. Even if I did, I’d still rather have dinner with you.” His eyes became smoke.

“I…um …” She turned her head left and right, searching for something that would excuse her. She found nothing and peeked up at him through her lashes. “I need to be here, just in case.”

“Oh, come on, everyone has to eat sometime.” He smiled at her, his teeth dazzling her further.

How can someone look so good?

Well, what did you expect from our mate? Now hurry up and say yes before he changes his mind.

That was rhetorical.

An indignanthuffwas the only response Opal received.

“Well, since you put it that way, how can I refuse?” she said.

“Good, I was just about to guilt trip you by reminding you I'm your golden ticket,” he said with a laugh.

He led her off the gambling floor and into the lobby. Though he was at least a foot taller than her, he kept his pace perfectly in tune with her own stride.

“You would blackmail me for dinner,” she said, feigning shock.

“Of course, I would,” he said without apology.

Opal didn't know why, but the lack of care he’d given at his shameless attempt to take her out only made him hotter. She’d always loved a man who knew how to take what he wanted.

See, I told you to say yes. It just started, and you’re ready to give him everything
