Opal hurried to close up the rest of the accounts. She turned to see Benton walking toward her with a big smile and found herself mirroring his facial expressions.

Benton wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled Opal into him. She pressed tighter against his chest and inhaled the scent of poker chips, playing cards, and bonfire. “Hi.” She smiled up at him. “How was your day?”

Benton leaned over and kissed her.

Opal’s head spun as she wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders. She coaxed his lips open with her tongue and ran it over his.

Benton’s other arm snaked around her back and tugged her closer as their kiss deepened.

Opal could feel his pants harden against her leg.

She remembered that they were still in public, but not before she pressed against his erectness for one moment.

Benton tangled his fingers into her hair when she pulled away from the kiss. “My day was good. How was yours?”

“Even better now.” Opal smiled at him. “Come on. I have someplace to show you.”

“Where are we going?”

“It’s a surprise.” Opal perked her brows. “Are you up for it?”

Benton crooked his fingers into her hand. “Lead the way.”

Opal laughed as they walked to her car.

On the drive to the train station, Benton talked about his day and some of the kinks he managed to get himself out of.

Opal told Benton about her unruly player and how she settled the situation. She was pleased when he didn’t puff up his chest or make idle threats about it.

Benton gave her a sly smile and looked pleased. “That’s a great way to handle them. I know I’d be distracted by your wiles and would lose all my sense of anger too.”

Opal’s laugh jingled like bells through the car as she pulled into a spot. “He was way too drunk for any part of him to actually register what was going on. Something tells me you don’t lose that kind of control during the game.”

A low growl rumbled from Benton’s throat. “I save the loss of control for other places.” He leaned in close to Opal.

His heated breath sent shivers down her spine. She bit her lip and kissed him quickly on the nose. “We’ll be late for dinner.”

He looked around the train station. “We’re eating here?” He waved his hand at the building in front of them.

“Yes.” Pride swelled in Opal’s chest. She appreciated his dubious look and uncertainty. She enjoyed surprising people. Somehow, it was even better with Benton.

He sighed and kissed Opal’s cheek. “Okay, let’s go, boss.”

Benton slid out of the car, and they walked into the station together.

The conductor showed them to their seats once Opal provided their tickets. The train blew its whistle within a few minutes, and the gentle hum of train wheels rolling over railroad tracks picked up. The car swayed smoothly and lulled them both into a comfortable place.

“Congratulations on your wins today,” Opal purred. The waiter brought them wine and menus. Benton looked around the car.

“Thank you.” He motioned through the air. “This is impressive.”

Opal shrugged. “I was sure you’d seen a lot of things in the world.”

“Yes, but nothing with you.”

Opal rolled her eyes. “That’s really cheesy.” She laughed. “But I also had the same thought.” She took a sip of her wine. “So, what does that mean for you? Game-wise.”

Benton raised an eyebrow. “I think you know.”
