He pulled his other hand up, grabbing her chin. "Opal, you've done so damn much that you have no idea. You helped hundreds of seniors when you left. And you're here now. You never left them. They will know that."

"What if we fail?"

"We won't." He leaned forward and kissed her before he let her chin free and turned back to the wheel. "We aren't going to fail because we are in this together."

She looked back, taking in the last of the town before they turned onto the street to head up to Troy and Reba's house. It was what they called the alpha house where most meetings were set.

They drove closer, and her stomach twisted once more. Everything was about to change, and she was nervous.

Benton parked, and they both got out of the car. The house was three stories with over seven bedrooms. She remembered going there for meetings and how she had always hated the way it was decorated.

She always felt they liked to flaunt their money, and the feeling still remained. Their lawn was clipped short, and they had a flourishing garden that went all around the house.

Her fingers curled into tight fists, hating this couple a little more. She wished things were different.

They headed inside, where they were stopped by a guard.

"Troy and Reba," she said, not caring if she sounded rude. "Now."

Troy walked around the corner, and his eyes widened. She took in his fine-tailored clothes and his black hair that was starting to pepper white. He was maybe fifty years old. But he was also vulgar and downright savage.

"Well, if the wind didn't throw a little rotten apple our way."

She swallowed, and Benton growled next to her. Her tiger shifted within her, not feeling the need to cower with him at her side.

Troy smirked at her. "Come to ask to come back to the clan, have you?"

"I wouldn't come back to this clan under your leadership if my life depended on it." She growled the words, seeing they irritated Troy.

She watched his shoulders fall back, and he scowled at her. He looked at the guard. "Fetch Reba. Let her know we have a pest problem."

"Did you think your little kidnappers took care of me? Pity they failed."

She watched his throat bob, knowing she had him. That was just how the Jacobs worked. They didn't want to dirty their hands. They would pay to have someone else take care of things if they wanted them done.

She heard Reba before she saw her. She came around the corner, dripping in a bedazzled black dress that matched her black-as-night hair. She stopped when her eyes landed on Opal.

She looked shocked, and then her eyes went to her husband. She looked angry.

She wondered if Reba thought she was dead. Had Troy told her she was no longer a problem?

"It seems you are a bigger pain in the ass than we thought," Reba spoke in her normal tactical tongue. Her eyes were sharp on Opal. "And you brought a little help this time."

"I've come here because your plan to get rid of me has failed, and I have enough to have the both of you put away for life."

Reba raised an eyebrow at her. "Darling, I don't think you do."

"That's where you're wrong." She pulled out a flash drive, and both of their eyes grew wide. "Did you two think I wasn't smart enough to have backups for everything? I have this flash drive plus everything else saved on my computer at home."

She watched anger flicker across their faces. Reba took a step toward her, but Benton stepped forward and growled at her. Reba took a step back.

"I have files of embezzlement, documents of all your bank charges. I have photos, hundreds of photos of you fucking people over to better yourselves every chance you could get."

She watched Reba's nostrils flare, and Troy growled at her angrily now.

"I'm giving you one chance to leave. Take whatever shit you have and leave peacefully. Otherwise, I'm handing this over to the authorities, and I'll allow them to lock you up."

Reba looked at Troy, who started to laugh. He cackled mockingly at her. He shook his head. "No. Do you think those people are going to do anything? That's cute."
