Cyrus kept his focus on her while he leaned forward to place his elbows on his desk and motioned for her to continue.

“This young woman would be more than qualified as a personal assistant. She has charm and is well-mannered. She is patient and kind. She is a flight attendant currently, so she has no issue with flying.”

But then Gerri leaned forward conspiratorially. “She seems to be very interested in the position, but that is not the only reason I am suggesting her to you. There is something I thought you should brace yourself for before you meet her. It is possible that she may not work out as your permanent personal assistant, but she could very well be something more.” Gerri paused.

Cyrus leaned back into his chair, folding his arms over his chest. His patience was waning as Gerri was clearly going for dramatic effect. A busy man like Cyrus had no time for these games.

Why would she say this girl is perfect and then say she won’t work out? What is this woman playing at?

“What I mean is she definitely is something special, particularly to you.”

Cyrus sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “Speak plainly, woman. I have had a long day already.”

Gerri’s eyes twinkled, showing that touch of gold. She shook her white hair back behind her, her confidence oozing. “Do you know what they call me, Cyrus? Unofficially, of course.”

He huffed. “People say you’re a matchmaker.”And a professional pain in the ass, his polar bear added.

“And my specialty is finding fated mates for shifters like yourself. My senses are never wrong. This young lady, Mila, is yours. Your person. She is perfect for you. She is attentive and intelligent and loves to travel. She will make a terrific companion regardless of what position she may take in your life.”

Cyrus’s head fell back, and he closed his eyes. Of course, another woman. Not what he needed right now.Regardless of what position … Gerri is trying to set me up on a blind date.

He pondered how to respond to this revelation. “Look, Gerri, I know you are good at what you do. I’m sure you have a great track record. But I just do not have the patience or rationality for dating right now. I need to focus on my work.”

Obviously, Gerri didn’t agree with that sentiment. Her eyes twinkled as she stood and retreated to the door. If Cyrus hadn’t known Gerri so well, he would have thought she would be about to walk out on him.

“I’m serious, Gerri. I don’t have time to date right now. I am right on the edge of …”

Gerri pulled on the door handle, and it creaked open to reveal the most beautiful woman in the entire world.

His eyes were fixed on this angelic creature that slipped between the doors of his office. Any and every reason he could have given Gerri evaporated into the atmosphere.

Her blonde hair shined like tall wheat in the field, and her eyes were deep pools of ebony. Cyrus could not breathe as the woman glided into the room with a smile that could stop traffic. The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.

Mine!his polar bear snarled.

There was nothing in the world that could be more important than this woman, his woman, standing just inside the door to his office. Her confidence was impressive, but he was more drawn to her smile, lighting up the room in a way he didn’t think possible.

He hoped he didn’t look as devastated as he felt. He tried to stifle his shock as he held out his hand to shake hers.

“Cyrus Bechtel, allow me to introduce Miss Mila Dillon.” Gerri’s voice sounded faraway.

Everything moved in slow motion. Not that Cyrus was complaining. He could stand there and watch Mila all day. When her hand slid into his, the sparks that ran through his body made the hairs on his arms prickle.

There was no doubt. Mila was his mate.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Bechtel. I am honored for the opportunity.”

He shivered when he heard her voice. The sweet harmony made his heart thunder in his chest. He and hisbear wereeager to hear more.

“Oh no, Miss Dillon. The pleasure is all mine. Please, call me Cyrus.”

Her smile grew and a need like no other pushed him to get closer to her.

“Okay. Cyrus.”

Mine.
