Strap’s handssmacked against the steering wheel in sync with the beat of the song. Mickey’s giggle was the only thing to break up the melodic tune. She couldn’t believe how cheerful and kind he was.

He’s not at all what I first thought. She glanced out the window to the colorful streets whizzing by them. She had expected a shifter to be gruffer and harder to get along with.

She really thought he would have just ‘hit it and quit it,’ but he’d been loyal the whole way through. The thought brought a genuine smile to her face. For once, she was happy to be wrong about something.

Her train of thought was broken by Strap’s charming voice filling the car. He was singing along to the radio.

Rolling the windows down, his voice got louder, like he was determined to fill the streets with the classic song playing on the radio. Mickey laughed, and he only shot her a grin before picking up the beat again.

It was hard not to laugh at him getting a few of the lyrics wrong, especially with how confident he sounded blundering it. A warm sensation filled her chest. She was really starting to like having him around.

When they reached the town she’d been researching, she couldn’t help the audible gasp.

“What? Is something wrong?” He looked at her with a sense of urgency, but it dissipated at her smile.

“Valencia is so much more modern than I thought. The pictures look nothing like the town.” She almost stuck her head out the window just to get a better view.

The whole town was incredibly modern.

As they drove into the downtown core, his hands lifted off the steering wheel as he pointed out buildings and explained their importance.

“That building holds part of the largest market in all of Europe.”

Mickey could only nod in wonder.None of this came up in my research. Maybe I need to do a better job.

“This town isn’t only a great place to learn about Spain’s history, but also its architecture is top notch.” He held up a finger as he made a turn, and they drove alongside the water. “That building over there …” He pointed to a dome-shaped place, “it’s the City of Sciences and Art. Very futuristic design.”

Strap broke away from his explanation to look at Mickey as she was just staring at him.

“Sorry if this is boring, I just …”

She held up her hand. “No. It’s not boring at all. I had no idea you knew so much about Valencia. Maybe you should have been the one doing the research.” She grinned, and a look of contentment covered the embarrassed look on his cheeks.

“You’re doing a great job researching; I just know about the architecture.” He chuckled as the car came to a stop. Parked on the side of the road, Strap nudged Mickey’s gaze to a clothing store.

“Why are we here?” she asked, looking at him before turning back to the window. “If we want to build an expensive house, we have to look the part,” he explained, stepping out of the car. By the time she undid her seat belt, Strap was holding her door open.

With a big smile, she climbed out of the car, kissing his cheek as she passed him. He closed the door, locking it before placing his hand on her lower back. Mickey could almost shiver if she didn’t think it would make him stop.He really is the sweetest.

Opening the shop door for her, they walked in and were greeted by the store owner. Strap explained that they needed a good outfit for a night out, and the woman immediately started picking out clothes for both of them.

After being ushered into the changing rooms, Mickey quickly stripped down in the small room and put on a sleek blue dress the lady had offered her. She looked at herself in the mirror and ran her hands down her side. It was incredibly form-fitting but looked professional. The dress ended just above her knees and had a high neckline.

It was ruffled in all the right places, accenting her hips and making her stomach look flat. She looked at herself in a few different poses, wondering if Strap would like it. It was silly for her to think about him when this outfit was for the job, but she couldn’t help it. She wanted him to like it, to look at her like a piece of candy.

She heard the sound of Strap’s door opening, and she slipped on the heels that the woman gave her and unlocked her door.

When it opened, she was greeted by a dashing Strap in a dress shirt and suit jacket with matching slacks. But his eyes were solely focused on her. Heat rose to her cheeks as his jaw dropped. A nervous giggle rippled through her chest before she looked down at the fabric and back up.

“Do you like it?” she asked, wanting to hear him say it. His eyes screamed with desire, like he needed to touch her now. The intense gaze in his blue eyes turned her on, and she had to stop herself from rubbing her legs together.

“Y-yes. It’s perfect. You should absolutely wear that one,” he said, his voice almost shaky and his throat sounding completely dry.

Fuck.Mickey wanted him …now. She did a little spin and then a once-over in the mirror behind her, slightly sticking her ass out to point it in his direction, wanting him to look. She cast a gaze over her shoulder, and it took a full second or two for Strap to meet her eyes.

“I’m gonna change,” she said, and he only nodded. With a purposeful sway of her hips, she strutted into the changing room. She waited for a beat, two, three. Nothing. She was hoping he would have slid in here, wanting to undress her himself.

The disappointment sat in her chest with a heaviness. Shethoughtshe had seen him wanting her, but maybe she was just making it all up in her mind. She really thought it would be like one of those clichés.
