She shook her head at him. “You didn’t even do it consciously. How fucked up is that? Trust Tommy Boyles to be the one guy who’s just absently an asshole.”

“Asshole? How is that fair? I care about you, Dahlia,” said Tommy. “We’reus.”

“We are not,” she said. “We never have been.”

“So, all those times I let you feed on me—”

“Why did you make me keep my raven mocker powers a secret?”

“Make you? Like I held a gun to your head?”

“You made it seem as if it had to be a secret,” Dahlia said.

“Youdid that,” he said. “You were worried that you’d get in trouble and that other people would—”

“But you never disagreed with me.”

“Well… well… itwaskind of intense.”

“Did you know that I can completely control it? That I’ve been going to therapy and now I can go full raven-mocker mode, with the flaming wings and everything, and that I don’t have to feed at all?”

His brows knitted together. “Seriously?”

“Seriously.” She glared at him.

“So, why did you make it into this thing, then?” said Tommy. “Why did you act like it was so dramatic and dangerous?”

“Ididn’t make it into a thing.Youdid.”

“Why would I do that?” He spread both of his hands.

“In order to have me at your beck and call and to keep me—”

“Oh, fuck that, Dahlia, you did that on your own.” His nostrils flared.

“I…” She pressed her lips together.

It was quiet.

He got out of bed, going out of his bedroom and into the kitchen area. He wrestled a container of iced tea onto the counter and poured himself a glass. “So, it’s my responsibility to research raven mockers and know all about whether or not you can control your feeding? I’m supposed to have done that for you?”

She sputtered, standing in the doorway to his bedroom, feeling confused.

He looked up at her, sipping at his tea. “Shit,” he said quietly. “This thing with us is incredibly fucked-up and unhealthy, isn’t it?”

She slid her hands into the pockets of her jeans. “Well, on that point, we agree.”

He drank more tea. “When are you moving out?”

“Tomorrow, actually.”

“Seriously?”

“I told you that I was trying to tell you before this.”

“Yeah, okay.” He shifted on his hooves. “I guess it’s for the best.”

She shook her head at him. “Tommy, you treat women badly.”
