Conversation flew around the table, but Kostya tuned it out. He desperately wanted to leave the room to go break the news to Maya personally, before she found out from someone else. Roman had a similar look on his face, but he suspected that Elena would want to celebrate rather than mourn her father’s passing. In the short time Maya had been back in Boston, it was clear to see how very different the sisters were. While Maya, much like Alexandra, was kind, calm and loving, Elena was devious and mercurial in a way that made him wonder how Roman could ever have fallen in love with her. At the same time, that same question might be posed to Maya about him. Giving himself a mental shrug, he decided that he would do his best to get along with Elena, for Maya’s sake.

The meeting finally drew to a close. Kostya wanted to rush out of the room, but his brother stopped him with a lift of his hand. With a sigh, he remained seated while most of the others left, except for Viktor, Niko and Roman.

The door barely shut behind Daniil when Viktor asked, “What are your plans once you get to London?”

Kostya accepted the refill on his glass and sat back. “I haven’t thought that far ahead. Maya left Boston to escape her father and everything he represented, I’m not sure she’d be okay with me continuing to serve as your enforcer.” He gave his brother what he hoped was an apologetic look. From the smirk on Viktor’s face, he didn’t succeed.

Viktor looked as though he might be about to make trouble when Niko jumped in. “Oh, for fuck’s sake, Viktor, don’t make him suffer. Tell him our idea.” Kostya stared at their youngest brother, who rarely spoke up about anything, and then turned to both Roman and Viktor who were choking on laughter.

“Fair enough,” Viktor finally said, between chuckles before turning to Kostya. “We don’t have everything figured out yet, but I am in need of a liaison in Europe and I’ve yet to find anyone I trust. If you decide to stay in London, then I would appreciate your assistance in that role. You wouldn’t be my enforcer, which should alleviate Maya’s concerns, but you would still be working for me. Is that something you would consider?”

Kostya looked at the three men in the room, all of whom were brothers to him—by blood and loyalty. They were all looking at him, waiting for his answer. Could he do it? It was a much bigger responsibility than being an enforcer. And one with far less bloodshed. Growing up, he’d always been treated as the muscle, but now his brother was willing to put his trust in him to do something entirely different. Was he up to the challenge?

He finally nodded his head. “Yes. I’d like that.”

Viktor clapped his hands in response. “Excellent. With the Svodnik dead, this changes my plans somewhat, but as soon as I have more details, I’ll let you know. In the meantime, go see your girl.”

Kostya stuck around long enough to accept their congratulations before he made his escape back to his suite where Maya would be waiting for him. He was going to get to go back to London with her to start a life he never knew he wanted—but now, less than a week after meeting her, he couldn’t imagine his future without her.

CHAPTER24

Maya

Maya paced the floor of Kostya’s suite in agitation. When he entered the room, he barely had time to shut and lock the door before she’d launched herself into his arms.

“I’ve been so worried about you. Is everything okay?” she asked him in between kisses.

Kostya hoisted her up in his arms, and she wrapped her legs around his waist. It made him wince slightly, but he held her tightly, not letting her get down. Walking toward the bed while they kissed, he stopped when they were close and turned so he sat on the bed with Maya straddling him.

“I’m fine. Viktor has given me leave to move to London with you. In fact, he’s offered me a new role in the organization. One that doesn’t involve violence.”

Maya stopped kissing him long enough to look at him. “New role?”

“It’s more…administrative, which doesn’t sound very exciting, but the pakhan assures me that it’s a necessary position.” His carefully worded answer got her attention. Thinking it over for a moment, she realized that this might be the best they could get. She knew from experience that one never truly left the bratva. She hadn’t wanted to be part of that world…but there was no way she was giving Kostya up. If he was willing to take a less violent role, then she could compromise, too.

“Administrative, huh?” She gave him a dubious look. “So you’ll be pushing paperwork around a desk?” she quipped, and he scoffed.

“Fuck me, I hope not.” She laughed at his response. “But there is something else.” Maya stiffened at that, giving him a cautious look. “While we were in the meeting, we got a message. It seems that while your father was being transferred to another location, the transport was attacked. Your father was killed.”

Maya’s hands shook before she tightened her hold on him. “Was anyone else injured or killed?”

He hugged her to him while answering. “I don’t know about injuries, but he was the only one killed. It seems to have been a targeted hit. I’m sorry to have to tell you that, zolotse.”

Kostya touched his forehead to hers, waiting to see how she’d respond. She kissed him on the lips. “I’m not so naïve as to be surprised at this, and I won’t grieve his death, but I’m glad you weren’t the one to pull the trigger.”

He hugged her to him, and they shared more kisses, which soon turned heated. He started to move back on the bed to lay down but she stopped him by placing a hand on his side and pressing. Kostya winced, and she gasped.

“Iknewyou didn’t leave there without some sort of punishment. How bad is it? Are you okay?” She started to tug his shirt out from his waistband, but he stopped her.

“I’m fine. Or at least, I will be. As pakhan, my brother needed to make a point in front of the others. I only had to take a few punches. Nothing is broken, and the bruises will heal soon enough.”

At that, Maya had a devious thought. “Well, Mr. Sokolov, I don’t think you should be doing anything too strenuous, so how about I take care of things for you?”

He raised his eyebrows, clearly trying to figure out what she was insinuating. With a little grin, she slid off his lap and pushed his legs wide apart so she could kneel in front of him. Reaching for his belt, she pulled it loose and released the clasp on his pants before pulling the zipper down. Shifting back to lean on his elbows, Kostya flinched slightly in pain but lifted his hips so she could tug his pants and briefs down.

Reaching for his cock, she wrapped her hand around the shaft and pumped up and down. Pushing his legs farther apart, she licked his shaft from the base to the tip, repeating the process on the other side and then again, alternating until pre-come began to bead out of his slit. She couldn’t resist licking it away with the tip of her tongue, and he groaned in response. With his quiet encouragement, she wrapped her lips around the crown of his cock and sucked gently, working him slowly as she began to bob her head up and down. Each downward thrust of her mouth took her a little further, and she would apply pressure as she pulled back up, causing Kostya to moan and whisper endearments to her in Russian.

She felt heady with the power she had over this amazing man in this moment. It made her want to give him everything. To show him pleasure like he’d given her, time and time again. To thank him for not being the one to kill her father. To express her joy that he would be returning to London with her. More than that, she wanted to see him come undone.
