“Nope! Almost finished.”

The noise continued for another ten minutes before Carson carried two plates into the living room and arranged them on the coffee table. He dipped back into the kitchen for two bottles of the chilled blackberry and kiwi flavored water that he refused to admit he liked and reappeared, the candlestick from my dining table tucked under his arm. Carson set everything up, trying his hardest to create a romantic scene. I smiled softly, charmed by the effort he made more than the actual ambience he created.

“Dig in, baby.” Carson beamed, looking so proud of himself, and I fell in love with him just a little bit more. Each day, I could feel the door to my heart open a little wider as he snuck inside, stealing pieces of it like a thief.

“This looks delicious. What did you bring me?”

“Chicken marinated in a citrus-herb infusion and glazed with the reduction, crunchy green beans with garlic and slivered almonds, and a wild rice pilaf with cranberries. Gordy was showing off, trying new things, and I grabbed the leftovers.”

My mouth watered. This unexpected feast sure beat the soup I was going to reheat.

Carson shoveled a bite of green beans in his mouth, and I could hear the crunch as he chewed, talking around a mouth full of food. “How did it go with the bakery cart? Did you find a contractor who can make what you need?”

“I sure did. But it’s going to cost me, especially since I have such a short timeline.”

“But you can afford it, right? If not, I have a little money saved aside that you can use.” He forked a piece of chicken into his mouth and closed his eyes as he chewed. “Damn, my cousin is amazing. He needs to put this on the menu.”

His suggestion floored me. Carson knew I had money in a trust fund. And I knew he didn’t have much saved, but here he was, offering me what little he had without a second thought. He had so much faith in my dreams that he wasn’t afraid to gamble his nest egg on my success.

And that was when I fell all the way in love with him.

It was ironic that with all the dating apps and dates I’d been on, I ended up full circle where I began, with my friend and my dating coach. None of those men held a candle to this man and never could. His generosity and loyalty were unmatched. Plus, he was sexy as hell, and funny to boot. Despite what he thought, I hadn’t settled for Carson in any way. Nothing about him was beneath me. Carson shined brighter than the sun, casting every man in his sphere into the shade.

I laid my fork down and covered his hand with mine. “Thank you for offering. But I can afford it.” I continued to stare until he stopped eating.

“What?” he asked, wiping his mouth, thinking I was eyeing food stuck to his lips.

“You don’t know what it means to me that you offered. It’s more than anyone has ever done for me. I’m just—”

Carson moved his plate to the table and scooted closer, a silly grin on his face. “Go ahead, Boytoy. You can say it.”

“Say what?”

“You know,” he baited. “It’s okay if you want to tell me you love me.”

His ridiculous expression made me laugh, the sound completely at odds with the serious feelings growing in my chest. If it hadn’t been for his sense of humor, I probably would have been fighting back tears right now, so overwhelmed with my feelings for him.

“Do I?” He could stand a bit of teasing.

“You know you do. I can see it written all over your pretty face.”

He tugged me onto his lap, and I crawled over his thighs and settled down, rubbing my nose against the tip of his.

“Maybe. I definitely feelsomethinggrowing for you.”

He traced the length of my growing bulge, squeezing the tip. “Oh yeah? Is it in your chest or between your legs?”

“Both,” I whispered as I brushed my lips over his, covering his hand with mine and pushing down as I thrust into his grip.

His lips found my neck, sucking wet kisses down the column of my throat. “Tell me, Ryan. Open up to me.”

I was having a hard time focusing on the pleasure spreading through my body like liquid heat while my heart was pounding furiously from his request. Could I say the words? Was he ready to hear them? I knew what I was feeling, even if I’d only realized it minutes ago. But there was absolutely nothing to be gained from holding back.

Through layers of cotton and denim, I rode his cock, grinding, my hips undulating in waves over his lap, as my tongue invaded his warm, wet mouth.

“From the first night, I haven’t wanted anyone but you.”

He gripped my hips, pulling me down hard, forcing his cock into mine. “Just me, Boytoy?” He kissed a blazing trail down my neck, sucking the hollow of my neck like he was tongue-fucking it. “None of your other Daddies and pretty boys?”
