Tilting my head up to the sky, I close my eyes and take a calming breath before looking back at her. “Okay. Tell me everything, and I meaneverything. Right from the beginning.”

“Logan found out about what Mason and I did. So he planned everything out for you to catch him with me at the party. He knew that if you caught Mason cheating, then you would break up with him.”

“How did Mason even end up in bed with you?”

“We…” She pauses, biting her bottom lip nervously. “We slipped a roofie into his drink.”

“Jesus fucking Christ,” I bellow, rage flooding my veins. “When you say we, who are you talking about?”

“Lily. It was my job to distract him so she could slip it into his drink without him knowing.”

Lily Bennett.

Lily fucking Bennett.

That girl keeps popping up and hanging around like a bad smell. A rancid bad smell. She is more toxic than I ever imagined, and I definitely underestimated her.

“Then what happened?” I press her.

She swallows hard and continues. “After she slipped him the roofie, I hung around waiting for it to kick in. Once he started to feel the effects, he became very agitated and insisted on finding you. I told him you were upstairs and that I would help him find you. He was disoriented by the time we reached the bedroom, so I encouraged him to lie down. While he was still somewhat coherent, I straddled his waist so that it would plant an image in his mind of something happening. When he passed out a moment later, I got off him and sent Logan a text…” She pauses, then looks to the ground, unable to meet my stare. “Logan came in shortly after. We stripped him and placed an open condom wrapper on the floor. I got into bed naked with him and Logan left to go find you.”

My chest rises up and down rapidly, and I do everything I can to get some level of control over my breathing. My anger is about to erupt like a volcano. I can’t fucking believe this. “What happened in the morning?”

“Well, I stayed the night. The only way to ensure the plan worked was if Mason was convinced that something had actually happened. When we woke up that morning—” She chokes out a sob placing a hand over her mouth, and looks up at me, her eyes overcome with guilt. “I don’t think I had ever seen anyone so devastated as he was when he thought we had slept together.”

“Jesus fucking Christ,” I grit out, reaching up and gripping the sides of my head, not caring if I mess up my hair. I start to pace, trying to wrap my mind around everything she just told me.

“I’m so sorry, Ava,” she croaks. “I really am. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.”

I stop pacing and pin her with a glare. “And how was it supposed to be? Why the fuck would you do this?”

“Logan told me that if I went through with this, then he would be my date to prom.”

“Yeah, well, I can see how well that worked out for you,” I mutter sarcastically. “So why didn’t Logan hold up his end of the deal?”

“When I went to his house the next day, he refused to let me in. He told me that we were finished, and there was no way he would take a whore like me to prom. So I told him that I would tell you the truth. He laughed and said there was no way you would buy my bullshit.”

“Why would you even do this for him to begin with? If you have to go to such lengths just to convince him to take you to prom, then it’s pretty damn obvious that he doesn’t have feelings for you. Why would you sacrifice your integrity just to receive whatever scraps he is willing to throw your way?”

“Because I love him,” she cries, tears falling down her face. “I’ve always loved him.”

I shake my head at her. “So is this some last-ditch attempt to get some revenge on him?”

“No.” She wipes her tears, shaking her head. “It’s over with him. I know that. I’ve got nothing to lose or gain by telling you this other than perhaps doing the right thing for a change.”

What a fucking mess.

I watch Hadley stand before me, ultimately defeated, and even though part of me would like to feel some form of sympathy for her situation, I can’t feel anything right now except blinding rage. I can’t believe the games these people have played with everyone’s lives, mine being the forefront of it all. What the hell is wrong with them all?

With nothing left to say to her, I turn away and storm off toward the entrance. I vaguely think I hear her calling out my name, but I could give a shit. I’m pissed. I’ve been completely pushed to the edge, and I’ve had enough.

Marching into the ballroom, I scan the crowd, my vision slightly blurred as it clouds over with red. I spot Logan standing with Lily talking to Grayson and make my way over.

My anger is at its boiling point, and by the time I reach them, it has erupted, blasting the atmosphere with its fiery flames. I roughly push Grayson out of the way, and he lets out a grunt, stumbling to the side.

“What the fuck, Ava?” he barks incredulously.

My head spins and pins him with a seething glare. “Why don’t you go find Summer and stick your dick in her disease-ridden hole, you son of a bitch?”
