Eric snickers. “Oh baby girl, don’t you go getting all bitter on me. You are far too sweet for that sour.” He gives me a friendly nudge and keeps eating.

I go back to picking at my food when I spot Hadley and her band of minions headed in our direction.

Surely she is not coming over here?

I’ve managed to avoid her all week, and I’m in no mood to deal with her right now.

Luckily my prayers have been answered. She bypasses our table and heads straight over to the one next to us, taking the seat closest to Logan.

“Hey, Logan.” She gives him a blinding smile and not so subtly adjusts her top to reveal more cleavage.

He glances at her briefly before turning back to his food. “Hi, Hadley.”

“For fuck’s sake,” Lyndsey grumbles, pulling out her phone and tapping on the screen. “I’m going to have to make an appointment at the clinic now.”

“Why?” Eric asks with a frown.

“The incubator for every strain of STD known to man just walked past.” She gestures toward Hadley. “I’m genuinely concerned for my health right now.”

“It’s not like you fucked her,” Eric points out, then adds, “Unless of course… you did?” He wiggles his eyebrows in suggestion.

“Eww.” Lyndsey scrunches up her face. “Hell no. I wouldn’t need to. Just breathing in her toxic fumes is enough. The bitch is so contagious; she is a walking, talking health hazard. I wouldn’t be surprised if you just caught chlamydia.”

“Nah, Grayson was closer. I reckon he caught it. I am feeling rather itchy, though. Maybe I caught crabs?” Eric retorts.

Everyone snickers and joins in, bantering back and forth over who caught what STD from Hadley when she breezed past our table. I tune out for the most part and glance over at Logan, who is eating quietly, ignoring Hadley’s attempts to get his attention.

He really was telling the truth when he told me Hadley meant nothing to him. He certainly isn’t making any moves to defend her honor while our friends rip her character to shreds, all within earshot of the woman herself.

Believe me, the bitch deserves it, but he certainly isn’t innocent either. He fucked her without a condom, so technically, he is just as disease-ridden as she is, but no one is calling him out on that. I’m not naive enough to think he didn’t enjoy sleeping with her, regardless of how it all came about. He made a choice and knew what he was doing was wrong, but he didn’t care.

I drop my fork on my plate. What little appetite I had left now completely obliterated. Why the fuck am I sitting here? He betrayed me in the worst possible way and having to sit at the same table as him, pretending it’s not awkward as fuck, is more than I’m capable of right now.

I push my lunch tray away and stand up. “I’m going to the library, guys,” I say, pushing in my seat.

“The library?” Lyndsey asks, and the whole table looks at me like I’ve lost my mind.

“Um… yeah, I have an English paper to work on with Mason and need to do some research.”

“Mason? As in Mason Reynolds?” Nate asks, and Logan’s head snaps in our direction, obviously overhearing the conversation.

“Yep,” I reply popping the p.

“Isn’t he that weirdo who doesn’t talk to anyone?” Nate continues to pry

“How do you know he is weird if you haven’t spoken to him?” Lyndsey asks with a frown, and he shrugs his shoulders.

“That’s what is weird. He doesn’t talk.”

“Well, I’ve seen him talk,” she states matter-of-factly

Nate narrows his eyes at her. “Did he talk to you?”

“He spoke to Ava and Lo—” Cadence butts in but pauses when Lyndsey shoots her a look that screams‘shut up’and motions her head in Logan’s direction.

Cadence shuts her mouth, and Lyndsey turns her attention back to Nate. “I saw him talking to Poodle.”

His jaw tics. “Why were you watching him talk to Poodle?” He air quotesPoodlewith his fingers, and Lyndsey’s eyebrows rise.
