“Okay,” she murmurs.

“Now, what I want you to do is twist your whole body and head toward my forearm, then bend down and slide your head out of my grasp while you push against me.”

She follows my instructions and frees herself from my hold. “Wow.” She beams. “That’s a move I haven’t thought of before, and it’s so simple.”

“Most self-defense moves are. It’s all technique and targeting those weak spots.”

“Show me some more?”

“Sure.”

We spendthe next hour going over various techniques in defense and punching. She is a fast learner and seems to be really enjoying herself. I’m also enjoying the fact I have an excuse to touch her. We have just finished a round of her fighting off my advances when I decide to change things up.

“Now that we have covered that, how about you have a go at trying to attack me?”

“Really?” she asks, looking uncertain.

“Yeah. You know, so you can learn to put someone on their ass?”

“But—” She hesitates for a moment. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

Rolling my lips between my teeth, I bite back a chuckle. “I wouldn’t worry about that, Flower.”

Even though she may have missed that endearment I just snuck in, she certainly didn’t miss the teasing in my tone, and her eyes darken with challenge. “Do you think I couldn’t?”

“It sure would be fun to see you try.” I wink at her.

She prepares for the attack by squaring her shoulders and shifting her feet into the position I taught her. “Okay. Let’s go, CK.”

I frown. “CK?”

“Um… yeah.” She bites her lip. “My friends have nicknamed you CK as in Clark Kent.”

“Clark Kent?”

She shrugs. “Cadence started it. She is convinced you are Superman.”

“Superman, huh?” I muse. “Well, I guess there are worse things I could be called. At least Superman is a total badass. No one fucks with him.”

“I bet Wonder Woman could give him a run for his money,” she counters.

“Oh really? And does that Wonder Woman happen to be you?”

“We all have our secrets, CK.” She gives me a mischievous smile.

“Well, show us what you got then, Wonder Woman.” I crook my finger at her, and she wastes no time charging toward me with a fist directed at my face. I block her with ease, and she comes back at me several times. After several failed attempts, she gives up trying to hit my face and starts aiming for my stomach.

Beads of sweat glisten on her skin, and tension radiates off her body as she starts to get frustrated over the fact she is unable to strike me, and I’m doing everything in my power to mask my amusement. She is so adorable when she’s mad.

She has a fierce competitive streak and is hell-bent on not giving up, but I can tell she is getting fatigued by the way her movements are becoming strained.

She puts up her hands in a time-out and takes a moment to catch her breath.

“Aw, Come on, Wonder Woman,” I mock. “Is that really all you got? Surely you can do better than that?”

Her head whips to mine, eyes dark with anger, and before I have the chance to anticipate her next move, she charges toward me. I brace myself for her to attempt a blow at my stomach or face but am caught off guard when she takes a flying leap toward me and wraps her legs around my waist.

My arms instinctively go around her, but the sudden impact of her entire weight colliding with mine sends me off balance, and I lose my footing. She grasps onto the back of my neck and leans back, making me lose my balance altogether. Feeling us going down, I let go of her and put my arms out before me, taking the full impact as we fall and hit the mat.
