“Good morning,” I reply with a yawn and stretch out my stiff limbs to ease the discomfort from spending the night on what felt like a bag of coals, then roll back on my side to face him.

“We have a day off today,” he says, sweeping his hand over my cheek and then tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

“I know. What are your plans today?”

“Well, I was thinking thatourplans today could maybe start with breakfast?”

I arch a brow. “Ourplans, huh?”

He bites his bottom lip with a smile and nods his head. “Yep,” he replies, popping thep. “Then I thought it best we go home and shower because Christ, do you stink.”

“Hey!” I swat his arm, and he mock flinches with a snicker, then he smooths a hand over my back and starts tracing lazy circles.

“And then,” he murmurs, inching closer and nuzzling his nose against mine. “I thought we could come back here and tell your dad the good news.”

“And what good news might that be?”

“That you’ve finally stopped being a pain in the ass and agreed to be my girlfriend,” he states, sliding his hand down the curve of my hip.

“Your girlfriend? I don’t recall agreeing to that,” I scoff. His eyes narrow, and he takes my hip in a firm, possessive grip that sends a flurry of excitement coursing through my bloodstream.

“Well, I think I may be able to persuade you otherwise,” he growls and nips my bottom lip, making my breath hitch.

“Is that so? I’d like to see you try,” I taunt, and his eyes darken with challenge.

Skating his hand upward, he digs his fingers into that sensitive spot under my ribs, and my whole body jolts as I gasp in shock. “Say you’re my girlfriend, Mac,” he demands.

“No way.”

His nostrils flare, and he shifts, forcing me to roll onto my back as he looms over me. “This is your last warning, baby,” he growls, staring down at me with an intensity that makes my blood sing, and as much as I would love to surrender myself to him in an instant, I can’t seem to stop myself from pushing his buttons.

“Say please.” I smile sweetly.

“Please.”

I tap my chin and pretend to ponder for a beat, then shrug my shoulders. “Nah, I think I’ll pass.”

“That’s it!” he snaps and digs his fingers into my side, tickling me. I writhe underneath him, my throat turning hoarse with laughter as he tickles me until I can barely breathe.

“What the fuck?” a voice barks.

We both freeze and pull apart, spotting Wyatt standing in the storage room and staring at us in bewilderment.

Crap. I didn’t even hear him come in.

Owen and I glance at each other, then look back to Wyatt, whose eyes ping-pong between us in question. “Were you two trapped in here all night?”

“Uh… you could say that,” I reply.

Wyatt folds his arms across his chest, eyeing us off suspiciously and taking in our disheveled state before a knowing smile creeps on his lips. “Well, it’s about time you guys got your shit together.”

My cheeks stain pink, and a giddy smile spreads on my face as I glance back at Owen, who shoots me a wink, then shifts off the bed and stands to his feet. Holding out his hand, I take hold of it, and he pulls me to my feet.

Straightening my crumpled uniform, I direct my attention to Wyatt, who continues to watch us with a shit-eating grin, and it suddenly dawns on me that his shift technically doesn’t start for a few more hours.

“Where’s my dad?” I ask.

“He took the day off,” Wyatt replies, and my brow lifts in question. “After he couldn’t reach you two this morning, he called me and asked if I could come in early.”
