But I have no reason to be nervous. My father loves Owen and even admitted to me once that if there was any man he wouldn’t hesitate giving his blessing to, it would be him. But with my father’s actions and behavior being somewhat unpredictable lately, I’m unsure of what we’re walking into.

“You okay?” Owen asks, turning off the ignition and pulling out the keys.

“Yeah. I’m just nervous for some reason. What if my dad doesn’t approve? What if he thinks this will distract us from work?”

“Distract us more than when we were trying to sabotage each other every day?”

Yeah, he has a point. The shit we got up to caused total chaos in the diner on multiple occasions, and strangely enough, my father was relatively blasé about it all at the time, which just makes me even more confused about the man.

“Besides, Joe loves me,” Owen adds, and I arch a brow at him.

“Cocky much?”

“Come on, what’s not to love?” he exclaims, then waves his hands down his body. “I’m the full package, baby.”

“Yeah, yeah,” I snort, then reach for the door handle. “Let’s do this then.”

“Wait!” he barks, making me jump back, and I frown as I watch him jump out and round the car, heading straight over to my door and opening it for me. “This package also includes a gentleman service and is just one of the many perks you will have by dating Owen Parker.”

He bows while holding out his hand, and I let out a laugh as I take it. “Oh my god, you’re such a dork,” I say as he helps me out, closes the door behind me, then snakes an arm around my waist and pulls me to his chest.

“Yes, but I’m your dork,” he growls, then buries his face in my neck and attacks my skin with small biting kisses.

“Stop!” I giggle, twisting my head away and pushing against his chest. “Let’s hold off on the PDA until we actually tell him, okay?”

“That’s not PDA. That was eating. I’m fucking starving,”

“Knock it off.” I laugh, swatting at his chest, and he shoots me a toothy grin before grabbing my hand and pulling me toward the stone path that leads up to the house.

“Let’s do this quick then so we can go home,” he says, marching toward my family home like a man on a mission and dragging me along with him. “I haven’t had you in almost half an hour, and already I’m starting to feel the withdrawals.”

We reach the threshold to the front door, and Owen twists the handle and pushes the door open.

I hear “Rodeo” by Garth Brooks blaring from the old radio in my dad’s kitchen as we step inside, and I close the door behind us, then take Owen’s hand and lead him through to the main living area.

He suddenly pulls me to a stop, and I glance over my shoulder to see him staring at the baby pictures of me on the wall with a shit-eating grin.

“Oh, for the love of God.” I roll my eyes and pull on his hand. “Quit looking at them.”

“But you were so cute,” he teases and reluctantly allows me to pull him away. “Such squishy little cheeks and chubby little legs.”

“Shut up,” I snap and tug him toward the entryway of the kitchen. “Just so you know, we’re visiting your mom next, and the first thing I’m going to ask her is to see your baby albums.”

“Over my dead—” he pauses, and we both freeze in our tracks when we take in the sight of the couple wrapped in a tight embrace and practically mauling each other’s faces off against the kitchen counter.

“Dad!”

“Mom!” Owen bellows at the same time.

Elena jumps back from my father and spins around, looking at us like a deer caught in the headlights while my father shuts off the radio and picks up his coffee, then leans his backside against the counter.

“Um…” Elena blusters, looking back and forth between my father and us like she’s watching a tennis match while my father takes a casual sip of his coffee as if he hasn’t got a care in the world.

“So you two finally together or what?” My father gestures to our joined hands with the edge of his coffee cup.

“Yes, sir,” Owen speaks for both of us.

“Hmm.” He nods his head with a grunt. “Well, it’s about damn time. I was ready to lure the pair of you into the storage closet at the diner and leave you trapped in there until you figured this shit out.”
