“Don’t ask me.” Erika giggles. “I’m just along for the ride.”

I groan.

“I didn’t mean it like that! You’re the one with the dirty mind!”

“Yes, well, I’m just amazed that you were able to find four guys who are all much better lovers than the ones I’ve been with.”

“Ugh. Jake and his soft snake.”

I burst out laughing. “He only got semi-hard, and… what… four thrusts? At the most five.”

“You told him you didn’t get off, right?”

“I did with the hopes that he would finish the job with his fingers or his mouth. He wore a condom after all, but no. He just rolled over and fell asleep. I wish I had my vibrator with me so I could’ve woken him and embarrassed him that I was getting off without him, but I went to the bathroom and tried to in there, but it… I couldn’t. I was too disgusted, you know?”

“You have to be in the right frame of mind,” Erika says. “It’s not like with a guy and if you stroke or rub or suck enough, he’ll come no matter what. It’s more mental with us.”

“You’re telling me.”

“So Oscar…”

“He got all weird once Kyle came around more often.”

“Yeah, I wouldn’t know from personal experience, but brother’s best friend…”

“Not my brightest idea, I know, and I didn’t come with him either, but it hadn’t been dreadful. Not bad.”

“A five on a scale from one to ten?”

“More a four… eh, three point five.”

“That’s terrible, Katie! Don’t settle! You deserve at least a six.”

“A six? Is that what you would give your guys? Should I tell them that?” I tease.

“I… ah…”

“They’re tens, aren’t they?”

“Not every time is mind-blowing,” she mumbles.

“You should know you can’t lie to me, girl.” I laugh. “Maybe being in love with the guy helps.”

“I really do think that matters. I would’ve thought that bullshit before, but now…”

“You know differently.”

“Yes,” she admits. “Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll meet your guy or guys at Juniper College.”

I laugh. “We’ll see.”

We continue to talk, but in the back of my mind, I’m not worried about finding a guy for myself. I don’t need love right now.

What I need is for my mom to accept that her love has died.

CHAPTER3

The next morning, I’m not really at all enthused about the idea of heading to the free breakfast. While the hotel has a nice kitchen in the rooms, the breakfast is really lackluster. Nothing hot unless you make yourself a waffle.
