“I love your voice, too.”
I heard papers shuffling. “Do you want to come in here?”
“I do, but I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
“Why’s that?”
“I don’t think I can handle you looking at me in disgust like this morning.” I swallowed hard. “And I have feelings I don’t know what to do with.”
“You could never disgust me, Pricilla.”
“I’m not so sure about that.”
HIs deep voice softened. “I’m sorry about this morning. It was just such a shock.”
“For me too.” I groaned in pain.
“Are you okay?”
“No, I have another issue, but I would rather not talk about it.”
“Fair enough.”
We sat quietly for some time. My heart sank with every moment that passed. I knew this would not turn out well.
“Are you the missing princess?” He broke our silence.
“Ugh. Yes. I was the King’s daughter. I didn’t want the throne, so someone who did cursed me and tried to kill me. You found me at that animal sanctuary. I am not even sure how much time passed from her attempt to you finding me.”
“Do you want to go home?”
I didn’t know how to answer that. I heard the chair scrape the floor and felt him coming closer. Panic welled up in my throat. I didn’t want to be seen like this.
“Frank?” I half whispered, almost choking.
“Don’t worry. I’m just sitting on the floor with my back to the wall, so we’re closer.”
“I… I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. You’re the cowardly King’s daughter, yeah?”
“Yes.”
He heaved a sigh. “Do you want to go home?”
“No. I like it up here in the clouds.” I chuckled nervously. “I like you. This is my home now.”
“You sound like you’re breathing heavily.”
I gasped and tried holding my breath. “You can hear that?”
“I can. Vincent and Ralph did some digging and found that the person who commissioned that collar for you had it cursed.”
“That makes sense.” Pressing my head to the wall, I took a deep breath. “That Tamara woman said your last name is Hammer.”
“It is. I’m Franklin Hammer.”
Awe filled my voice. “Hidden Hammer Furniture?”
