“Nope—I’m here for you, honey. I’ve given you time and space, but I want you back where you belong, with me.” Hearing him say that gave her so much damn hope—and that was dangerous for her and her heart.

“What about the baby?” she asked, cupping her tummy. “I want to keep the baby.”

“I want you to keep the baby too, Eden,” he agreed. “I was wrong when I said that my job wouldn’t allow me to have a family. My meeting with Bruno and Victor showed me that. They want peace too, and the Deadly Sins Syndicate will finally be run by families who want what’s right. We want to live peacefully and give up some of the old ways. We won’t have to look over our shoulders anymore or worry that one of the families is coming for ours.”

“You want a family?” Eden croaked not able to stop the tears that were currently spilling down her face. Bowie closed the space between the two of them and pulled her into his arms.

“I do,” he whispered, gently kissing her lips. “I want a family and I want kids with you.” She nodded, letting a small sob escape her lips. “Don’t cry, honey,” he crooned.

“They are happy tears,” she insisted. “I was so afraid that this baby would cost me you. I never imagined that you’d change your mind. Are you sure?” she asked.

“I’m positive,” he said. “Living without you for these past two months showed me that I’m nothing without you by my side, Eden. I love you and I’m happy that you’re pregnant with my baby.”

“I love you too, Bowie,” she sobbed.

“Wait right here,” he ordered. He released her and grabbed the radio from her father’s desk. “Captain, would you mind coming back to the bridge?” he asked.

“On my way,” her father said. He tossed the radio back to the desk and Eden wasn’t sure what he was up to, but he was up to something judging from the smirk on his handsome face.

Her father poked his head in, and Bowie motioned for him to join the two of them. “What’s up?” her father asked.

“I’d like to ask your permission to marry your daughter, Captain,” Bowie said.

“What?” Eden asked. Bowie pulled her against his side and wrapped an arm around her.

“I want to marry you and I thought that I’d ask your father’s permission,” he repeated.

“What about my permission?” she asked.

“I’m going to get to that,” he assured. “How about it, sir?” he asked her father. “I love Eden and I want to marry her.”

“Is this because I’m pregnant?” she asked. “Because I’ve already told you that I won’t pressure you into doing the right thing because of the baby. You don’t have to do this, Bowie.”

“Yes, I do,” he said. “I’ve already told you that I love you, honey. I was a wreck without you.”

“He’s not lying about that, Eden. Poor sap called me just about every day to see how you were doing. I can’t believe I was able to hold him off for this long before he showed up here. He’s been checking on you from the beginning.”

“You have?” she asked.

“I thought that we covered that,” Bowie said.

“No, you said that you called and spoke with my dad once you found my note. You left off the part about calling him every day.”

“Well, I didn’t want to seem too desperate,” Bowie teased, “but, it’s true.”

Her father shrugged, “If Eden wants to marry you, Bowie, I give you my blessing. I just need your promise that you’ll keep her and my grandchild safe.”

“I promise, sir,” Bowie agreed. “I’ll protect them both with my life.”

“I’m going to hold you to that promise,” her father said. He held out his hand and Bowie shook it. “Welcome to the family.”

“Thank you, Captain,” Bowie said.

Eden cleared her throat and crossed her arms over her chest. “Well, now that you two have struck your little deal, aren’t you forgetting the most important technicality in all of this? I haven’t agreed to marry you, Bowie.”

He released her father’s hand and pulled Eden into his arms. “Say you’ll marry me, Eden,” he ordered. “Please.”

“Well, since you said please, I guess I should consider your proposal,” Eden teased.
