The more I think about him the more worked up I get. For some reason I keep thinking about that kiss back in Texas. I’m not sure I’m ready to admit to myself that perhaps I’m hoping there will be a repeat performance sometime in the future.

I can’t see my face, but I’m pretty sure I’m flushed. I’m trying to calm myself down when I hear a loud pop outside my car. Then the damn thing starts to wobble violently.

I pulled over to the side of the road and get out.

I walk around my car and notice that one of my bad tires has basically just exploded.

Fuck! I should’ve just listened to my parents when they told me to buy a new car, but no, I wanted to save money.

I look around and I’m only now just noticing that I am on an abandoned stretch of road. On either side of me are wild fields. No buildings. No people.

Although I know how to change a tire, I don’t feel safe doing it all by myself out here in the middle of the night. I get back into my car to call AAA.

I grab my phone and that’s when I see that I have no cell service.

Just great.

I guess I am going to have to change the tire myself after all.

I get out of the car and head to the trunk where I begin to retrieve everything I’ll need.

The spare tire and tools are now on the side of the road. I close the trunk with one hand while holding the tire iron in the other. It’s just as I place my 360 lamp on top of my roof and switch it on that I notice car headlights approaching me from behind.

The car pulls off the road a safe distance away. My heart starts to race and my grip on the tire iron tightens. I don’t know who this person is. I don’t know if they mean to offer help or do me harm, so I have to be careful.

The headlights go off and the Mercedes parked in front of me looks familiar. It’s not until Glen steps out of the driver’s side that I realize why.

He strides toward me in a blue polo tucked into fitted tan shorts and boat shoes. He looks more relaxed than he usually is. The sight of him like this causes my mouth to water.

He walks with that casual confidence he has, as if the world belongs to him. Although that sense of entitlement would normally cause my skin to crawl, for some reason, on Glen it’s sexy as hell.

He stops a few feet away from me and points at my car. “What’s going on here?”

“Hey,” I reply. “I was just heading out to get some groceries and got a flat.”

Glen looks at the watch on his wrist and says, “Who goes grocery shopping this time of night? And in their pajamas…”

I look down at my oversized pink pajamas and mismatched crocs. It’s only now that I’m remembering that my hair is a rat’s nest and I’m wearing no makeup. Basically, I have zero sex appeal right now.

I start to feel self-conscious, but then I catch myself. Fuck him for pointing that out.

I roll my eyes at him. “I do. Do you have a problem with that?”

He chuckles and shrugs. “Do you even know how to change a tire? Because I could do it for you.”

I scoff. “I know how to change a tire. I don’t need your help. Also, I wouldn’t want you to hurt your back. You know, what with you being geriatric and all.”

Glen actually laughs. Like, a full belly laugh, and the sound tickles my insides. “OK… Go ahead.” He walks over to the side of his car. He leans his hip against it and gestures for me to go ahead. So I set about changing the tire.

The only hard part is loosening the lug nuts. For a second it looks like I’m going to have to ask for his help. The idea of me going to him with my tail between my legs gives me a burst of superhuman strength. It’s smooth sailing after that.

When I am done, I stand up and wipe the perspiration that covers my brow with the back of my hand. Glen starts clapping.

“I really didn’t think you were going to be able to manage that,” he says.

“I know you didn’t. Which is strange, because you should know how capable I am by now.” I smirk at him.

He chuckles. Then he makes a move toward my flat tire. It looks like he wants to help me put it in my trunk, but I wave him off.
