I smirk at her. “You know what I’m gonna do about it…but first tell me you’re not leaving Boston. Tell me that you forgive me, and that we can work through this mess that I created.”

“I thought that was implied.”

“Nope. I’m gonna need you to say it.”

She rolls her eyes at me. “Fine, I forgive you. I am not moving back to California, and we can try to work through our issues.”

I take her lips in another kiss and grab her hand and begin to lead the way to her bedroom.

“Oh! By the way, I love you too.”

I stop dead in my tracks. The words sound so genuine coming from her. I can’t imagine what I did to deserve the love of Emma Stanley, and now that I have it, I know there’s nothing in this world that will ever make me jeopardize it again.

So I make a silent vow to her to honor the trust she’s bestowed on me.

For the first time in days, my heart is at ease because I know everything is going to be all right between us.

Epilogue

Emma

When I think back to the person I was when I moved to Boston a year ago it gives me whiplash.

It’s like I’m an entirely different person. I’ve grown so much.

I’m doing so well at work. So much so that I was promoted into a managerial position within six months of my move to Boston.

I’m heading my own team now, and I have to say, I have taken to leadership quite well. That’s exactly what I mean by growth. I never would have guessed that this role would be a position that I’d thrive in.In fact, I practically ran away from responsibility my entire career.

When I was offered this position, I had tried to turn it down because I didn’t believe in myself. It was Glen who encouraged me to give it a chance.

Glen has been a revelation. He has unlocked parts of my personality that I had no idea were even there. I’m so much more confident and sure of myself. I believe I deserve nothing but the best, and it’s all because of the love that Glen has lavished on me.

My parents are in town and Glen had a wonderful idea to have a party. He offered to throw a barbecue in his backyard.

Seeing as I didn’t know when all our loved ones would be in the same place next, I jumped at the opportunity.

My parents were shocked at first when they found out about Glen. They were a little uncomfortable with the idea of their baby girl dating a peer of theirs. However, it didn’t take them long to come around. All they’ve ever wanted is my happiness. So when they saw how happy Glen makes me, it was no longer an issue for them.

Glen is standing off to the side with Serena and they are laughing at a joke she’s just told.

It was tricky for a while when it all came out that Serena had cancer. The news came out in dramatic fashion when Sophie found a letter from the hospital at her mother’s house.

It was touch and go for a moment, but Serena had her surgery and is now cancer-free.

I’m so grateful for that fact, because she is very loved by Sophie and Glen and I would have hated for them to have to deal with any bad news where she was concerned. Also because, although I wouldn’t say we’re friends, I have become quite fond of her.

All of a sudden, as if on cue, Glen and Serena turn to me and smile. Glen says something to her and then walks to me.

He puts his arm around my waist and says, “This was a good idea.”

I chuckle. “If you do say so yourself.”

He laughs. “Yeah, this party was my idea, but you’re the one who did all the hard work of putting it together. I was actually praising you.” He kisses the side of my head.

“Thank you.” I lean into him.

We are standing and holding each other when Oliver walks into the party.
