Page 6 of Bossy Daddy

Is he hard right now?

Blood is rushing to my ears. With Glen still wrapped around me, I pull the trigger, and the can in front of us goes flying into the air.

“That was good…” Glen says, almost in a whisper.

Before I can turn around and look at him, Glen has already bolted and is walking away from the group. All I see is his strong back as he retreats.

What was that?

I mean, I know that I am attracted to Glen, but is it possible that he is attracted to me too? Surely not...but I could’ve sworn I felt something large and very hard pressed up against me seconds ago. Or was I hallucinating?

What does all this mean? Do I have a chance with him?

Oh my God! What am I thinking? He is Sophie’s dad. He is also much older than me and is my boss, kind of. I can’t get involved with him, even if we both wanted to. It would be such a fiasco. I have to keep my distance.

As I am having this thought, Glen rejoins the group. I look down at his pants and see no activity. I start to wonder whether he excused himself to adjust or take care of it. I begin to fantasize about what that might’ve looked like when I catch myself and force my thoughts off that track.

Not long after that, our party is broken up into various hunting groups with two professional hunters provided by the lodge leading my group. Glen is part of my group and I try to convince myself that I’m not happy about that.

We spent the next couple of hours traipsing through the woods, tracking an elk. The further we go, the less I believe in the existence of this elk.

I’m about to suggest we give up and head back to the lodge when I hear a twig snap in the distance over my shoulder.

I turn around and a good distance away stands the huge elk eating from a patch of grass. Before anyone else notices what is happening, I kick into gear.

I cock my gun, aim and fire. My shot meets its mark and the elk drops to the ground with a healthy thud.

Everyone turns around to look at me with alarm in their eyes.

“What just happened?” Glen asks.

“I just took down the deer we’ve been tracking for hours.” I smirk.

I look around me and see the looks of disbelief on every face. They all can’t believe that the girl in the all-pink hunting getup managed to shoot the damned thing.

My chest blooms as we approach my fallen quarry. I like proving people wrong. I like letting them know that it’s always the wrong choice to bet against me.

Our group surrounds the deer, and Glen says, “Would you look at that…she did kill it.”

I look up at him and he is grinning at me, and I can’t help but smile back.

Our hunting instructors help us lug the deer back to the lodge where it will be prepared for dinner tomorrow.

Once we get back, everyone returns their guns to the shed and heads inside.

When I go in to drop my gun, I find Glen waiting for me.

When he sees me he laughs. It is such a rich sound and fills the space.

“How did you learn to shoot like that?”

“My parents are big hunters. We went hunting several times a year when I was growing up.”

“Considering your protests against coming here, I figured hunting would be the last thing you’d like.”

“I never said I like hunting, just that I’m good at it.”

“Fair enough… Anyway, I can’t believe you know how to shoot like that and you let me give you a lesson earlier.”
