“Declan,theDeclan from home?”

She blinks and says, “TheDeclan.”

For a minute, I just look at her. Closely. Do I sense something in the way Ariel said the bodyguard’s name?

“Declan’s very handsome, in a rugged Irishman fashion, by the way,” I inform Eva.

Ariel sets her glass down with an agonized expression. “I know. If only he knew that some of those toys might have accompanied a fantasy or ten about him, he’d die. If there’s an explosion, it’s me combusting on the spot because he mentioned something."

I start to snicker. Before long, we all three dissolve into a riot of laughter. Unfortunately, the party is cut short.

Kieran appears beside the table looking like he ate a porcupine for breakfast. “You have a full day today to relax and catch up. I have a few things to take care of. Just wanted you to know we have an appointment tomorrow at twelve. Ariel, you’re invited.”

Eva makes an insulted sound. “I guess I’m rubbish.”

“You’re going to be busy finding another florist.”

She lifts an annoyed brow. And with that remark, he walks away.

Dragon girl eyes the plate of cookies on the table. “Would it be bad if I threw a pastry at his head? Because that would be immensely satisfying.”

“Only if we all can,” I reply.

CHAPTEREIGHTEEN

Eva and Ariel have their noses together as they look over a reception menu.

With a sniff, Ariel says, “I wouldn’t do that.” She taps the menu. “You need some kind of bright flavor to balance the heavy ones.”

Eva asks, “You think some kind of—”

Ariel points to another menu. “Something like this. Salad with a lemon dressing. Very light.”

I sit back with my arms crossed and my feet on the coffee table.

“Working hard over there?” Eva jokes.

“Yep. Just watching my fingernails grow.”

“Speaking of,” Eva turns to me with a wicked grin. “The manicurist is coming tomorrow at four to do you up for the wedding. She’s bringing her ‘girls’ which mean that me and Ariel get to join the fun.”

Ariel’s eyes go wide. “Jeesh. Thanks! But that reminds me, I keep forgetting that you’re getting married on Saturday!”

I groan and fall over onto the sofa.

They stare at me.

“I’m not ready.”

Ariel comes to my side, she sits on the arm of the sofa and tugs my ponytail. “Is there a reason that this can’t be delayed?”

I grumble, roll onto my back, and hide my face behind a throw pillow. “You know my father. This is business. Kieran says it’s going to happen quickly because there are some people coming to the wedding that need to meet.”

Ariel makes a disgusted sound. “So, you have to get married so the goons can talk over wedding cake?”

“Something like that.”

Eva says, “Unfortunate. Especially given what a beautiful wedding we have planned. Have you seen the dress, Ariel?”
