Folding my arms over my jittery stomach, I pace the room. “I suppose that should make me happy, that he’s a good man, whoever he is, and that he’s coming. But it kind of freaks me out.” I walk restlessly across the room over and over as he stands there, silently watching me. “No, it doesn’t kind of freak me out. It really, really freaks me out. Like they might need to bring me some kind of drug. Right now.”

Fiancé. Engaged.

I’m in a cold sweat now. All systems are in full alarm mode. I wring my hands and make another lap of the tiny room. “Gee, isn’t this fun. Don’t you want to trade places with me?”

He laughs softly. “Sorry, Strong isn’t my type.”

“Well, what if he isn’t my type either?”

His eyes are amused when I turn to look at him. “Honey, you two couldn’tnotbe each other’s type if you tried.”

Suddenly, a flutter unfurls in my gut. “What do you mean?”

The man shakes his head. “He’s… he’s, hell, I can’t describe the guy in a way a woman would get.”

I drop onto the foot of the bed, thoroughly frustrated. “You’re no help.”

He grins. “You might feel different about me after tomorrow, when he gets here.” Then he shrugs one of his broad shoulders. “Or you might hate me.”

I groan. “If you’re trying to make me feel better, you're not.”

He walks toward the door. “Guess I’ll go, then.”

I have so many questions. “Wait!”

With his hat in his hand, he looks back at me.

“Were we… you know, happy together?”

His sharp eyes hold my gaze for a few beats, as if he’s considering his answer. Long enough for me to have a mini-heart attack. “Yeah, you were.”

Biting my lip, I watch him go.

Oh. My. God.This isn’t happening.

The room is too quiet. The hum of the air handler buzzes enough to make me unnerved.

I’ve definitely got a case of the nerves now. I was restless before, but now it feels like Big Ben is counting down to the moment when I meet the love of my life.

I just hope there’s fireworks and not nuclear devastation, because I can’t take anything worse than what’s already happened.

My laugh comes out sounding crazy, even to my own ears.

No,this is not intense at all.

I flop back onto the bed.

God, help me now.
