I smiled. “Of course. I’m glad that you think so.”

I left the office, looking around, and the entire time, my mind kept returning to McKenzie.

She was so cute, and I noticed as she put a file down at the bottom, the gray pants that she wore accentuated her ass in ways I didn’t think possible. I licked my lips just thinking about it.

I shouldn’t want her, but her mere presence was enough to drive me insane, making me wonder if this desire could be quenched or if it was just an instinct for me.

That evening, as I finished the last of the billing, I looked at my computer. I noticed about five folders still had to be done today.

We were running out of time. McKenzie walked through the doorway. She had her black bag in her hands and a black leather jacket. Her ass still poked out from those grey pants, and my eyes lingered for a little longer than I cared to admit.

“McKenzie,” I said.

She turned around, her hand on the door, looking at me. “Is something the matter, Aaron?”

I nodded. “There is something wrong.”

She whipped her head around, looking at me with confusion.

“But it’s late. I need to head home and—”

“We have five patients with billing that needs to be done tonight. Ten are due first thing this morning. I can’t do this alone. We can’t finish yet,” I said.

The disappointment in her eyes was apparent.

I smiled. “I’ll help.”

“Okay. Can I bill for overtime, then? Since you’re making me stay longer?” she asked.

I laughed. “Course. Just let HR know. I really need your help. If we do this together, we’ll get it done fast.”

She hesitated, looking at me. “What if I say no?”

I smiled. “Then I’ll fire you on the spot.”

She shook her head. “There’s no way that you can do that!”

“I can, and I will. I’m still the head of this company, McKenzie, and I can’t let you go,” I told her.

She nodded. “I see. Fine, I’ll do it. I’ll…I’ll stay here and help.”

My eyes turned to the pile, and I motioned for her to come to sit next to me.

“We’re going to work together. In here?”

‘Yes, I don’t have time to waste either. I would like to get this done quickly so that it doesn’t take all night,” I muttered.

She hesitated but then sighed. “Fine, I’ll do it.”

I looked at her, and I could see the disdain on her face. She didn’t like this as much as I did, and honestly, I understood why. She probably wanted to go home, and so did I.

But the sooner we got this done, the better, and plus, maybe there was a chance that we could try to get along. I doubt it, but it was worth a shot.

Chapter 5: McKenzie

Isatdownacrossfrom Aaron, taking the first folder I saw. I looked into his eyes. They were dark and narrow.

“Are you sure we just can’t come in first thing tomorrow?” I mean, I could try to swing this, at least.
