Oh, God.

“Do you really want me to answer that question?”

Her face flames. It’s no secretwhythey use the Omega pheromones, but she’s struggling not to imagine the Alpha in front of her enjoying her scent in a particularly explicit way.

No, this night keeps getting worse.

“Abel,” he says after a few moments of silence.

“What?”

“My name is Abel,” he says, turning the wheel. “And—”

CRACK.

CHAPTER 12

ABEL

It washis fault for mentioning the sweater.

He thought he was doing extremely well for being alone in a car with an Omega for the first time in his life since presenting, especially considering that for almost a decade he had believed he would never see one again.

Then he mentioned the stupid fucking sweater.

It’s no secret that Omega pheromones are used to keep Alphas’ behavior in check, but what were the odds that the owner of the sweater he jerked off to would be sitting mere feet from him?

How could he ever explain to her that her pheromones are part of what created this plan in the first place?

It’s all awkward as fuck, and he’s thankful he’s still wearing the mask over his face so she can’t see his face flush.

But then he notices something flash out of the corner of his eye, and his training kicks in.

It’s only one shot, and it's poorly executed, but it’s still enough to frighten her. She shrieks as the bullet pierces the air and lowers her head in fear. He yanks the wheel, weaving them out of the alleyway and back down the city streets. The shooter’s aim was awful, and the bullet was nowhere close to its target, but it doesn’t mean they can’t take aim again.

“Oh my God,” she whimpers, squinting her eyes shut. “This can’t be happening; this isn’t fucking happening—”

“No one should be shooting at us,” he says conversationally. “It was probably someone trying to play a hero. But keep your head down until we get there.”

He sounds calmer than he actually is. Who the fuck took such a lousy shot? They obviously don’t know she’s in the car; no one would dare make such a foolish shot around an Omega.

He wants to beat the fuck out of them on her behalf, and he’s still livid when they arrive at her complex.

They park in the garage and when he turns off the ignition, she’s still leaning over awkwardly, trying to quiet her breathing.

“I’m sorry about that,” he says softly. “I have no intention of harm coming to you.”

She ignores him, and he dismisses the pang of guilt he feels.

Shewas the one that was in the wrong place at the wrong time.Shewas trespassing.

Actions have consequences.

He unbuckles his seatbelt and steps out of the car, walking to her side and opening the door.

She won’t look at him. Instead, her dark hair hangs like a curtain in front of her face, hiding her emotions.

“Get out,” he says tersely. He waits as she awkwardly sits back up, her hands struggling behind her back. He frowns when he sees her wrists have turned pink from the zip ties.
