It feels like hours, but it’s probably mere minutes before Abel returns, placing plush, soft pillows around her, creating a protective barrier.

Safe. Warm.

“I’ve got you, baby,” he promises, his voice barely above a whisper. “I’m here.”

She snuggles deeper into her covers.

He drapes her favorite silk blanket over her, followed by a down comforter. She hums contentedly, her cramps subsiding.

The arousal doesn’t dissipate, though. Even after he brings two more cashmere throw blankets, carefully wrapping them around her cocooned frame.

She doesn’t understand how a man made of only muscles and sharp edges can be so gentle.

He didn’t even come. He didn’t let her finish him off, simply because he cares about her pleasure first.

Alpha cares about us!

Her breathing slows, and a small smile spreads across her face.

Maybe everything will be okay. Alpha is here.

An Alpha who brought her a bath bomb and made her an omelet and pancakes.

An Alpha who helped her through a panic attack.

An Alpha who is now crawling into bed next to her, lying above the covers and purring.

She wishes she could tell Ava about him.

But before she drifts off to sleep, the fatigue of her Heat setting in, she finds the energy to make another demand.

“Under the covers,” she says sleepily. “Want to feel you.”

She officially invites him into her nest.

It’s an act of trust she’s never offered to any of her Beta lovers. They didn’t understand it, and they never seemed interested in joining her while she was going through her Heat.

But Abel stiffens at her request and his scent deepens. “Are you sure?”

The slightest hint of insecurity tinges his question, and her chest aches.

“Yes,” she whispers. “I need you.”

She keeps her eyes closed as he settles under the blankets with her, his purr increasing.

It’s all so natural, and it makes her furious that she was lied to for so long.

“How can something feel this right?” she murmurs, half asleep. “Why did they keep me away from you?”

She’s asleep before he can reply.

Fire.She’s on fire.

She wakes up with a start, gasping for air and thrashing in the blankets.

This is the worst part of her Heat. She’s shivering, yet she’s burning, and her emotions are erratic.
