Or to feed her cat.

Just a couple of the many examples for their lifetime together.

Of course, it will be much easier if he doesn’t have to drag her through their lives kicking and screaming.

Hewouldenjoy some normalcy, if possible.

Still, he’ll take what he can get.

Once he’s sure she’s comfortable, he unzips his duffel bag and retrieves the nesting blankets. He’s grateful they were easy to snatch; with all the chaos in the Omega cities, storage units are full of brand new supplies just in case. He drapes the soft material over her, bundling her up as best he can.

She sighs in her sleep, and the frown lines in between her eyebrows fade.

His inner Alpha rumbles in approval.

He can be gentle when he needs to be.

The Alpha military didn’t erase that from him completely.

While she sleeps, he feeds Pearl, then works on installing Audrey’s security system.

It’s simple, but when she wakes up, he’ll show her how to program it, and it will give him peace of mind that she’s safe from any intruders.

He still cannot believe she was living by herself without one.

Anyonecould have broken in.

“Silly girl,” he murmurs to her sleeping form. Her breaths are deep and even as she dozes, and she’s hardly moved since he covered her in the nesting blankets.

They’ll help regulate her body temperature and keep her feeling safe.

For good measure, he also places his black hoodie near her head, so his scent will cover her.

Hopefully, when she wakes up, she’ll be more…amicableto their situation.

He’s not counting on it, though.

He sits in her cozy recliner next to the couch, watching her intently as he takes a syringe out of the duffel bag. He injects himself with his Rut suppressant, thankful that he thought to take as many as he could with him.

If he didn’t have them, he’d turn into more of a monster than he already is.

The thought makes him chuckle. He’s not sure if he could get any worse than he already is.

“Mrupp.”

Well, at least someone disagrees with him.

The cat hops onto his leg after he puts the syringe away and nestles into his lap almost immediately. Her purr is ridiculously loud, and he takes his time stroking her soft fur.

Cats were never on the Alpha military island. He had almost forgotten what they were like until he ran into the black feline for the first time.

“Do you think she’ll be nicer to me when she wakes up?” he whispers to the cat. “I brought her food. I fed you, and you like me. So, I’m hoping this works, too.”

He scratches Pearl gently under the chin, and she purrs louder.

“Yeah,” he mutters, frowning. “I don’t think it’ll work either. I am kind of a bastard.”

Audrey starts to stir, small whimpers escaping her throat as she kicks at the nesting blankets.
