What has she done? There’s anAlphaon top of her on her couch.

Out of the corner of her eye, she sees Pearl’s judgmental look from the top of her cat tree.

That snaps her out of it.

“Get off me,” she hisses, yanking at his hair. He chuckles into her skin, amused by her reaction. “Getoffme!”

With a dramatic sigh, maneuvers off her. “Whatever you say, darling,” he smirks, sitting up and leaning back against the couch.

She sits up with a huff, yanking the robe back over herself and standing up. “I’m going to shower,” she states. “And when I’m out, I want yougone.”

Part of her doesn’t. She wants him to stay here; she wants to fool around with him on her couch and never see the outside world again.

And she has so many questions. She’s always been fascinated with the Alpha/Omega connection, and he has answers she would never have found herself.

“You’re lucky I don’t turn you in to the police,” she continues, and he just raises an eyebrow at her as he stands up. He advances on her slowly, and she backs up toward the wall closest to the kitchen.

“Actually, very lucky for the police,” he says, taking a step closer. “I’m sure the lovely state of Washington doesn’t want to deal with any more dead officers.”

She frowns, but briefly recalls a news segment mentioning an Alpha murdering a member of the Maitland City police.

It was Abel. The Alpha leader who now seeks refuge in Canada with his Omega.

He sees the confusion on her face, and steps forward until he’s in her face, his scent swirling around her. “You have no idea the things I’ve done,” he whispers, his eyes dancing with delight.

“It’s not something to brag about,” she says, keeping the tremble out of her voice as he caresses her cheek. If he kisses her again, she knows she’ll respond just as eagerly. “Murder isn’t an accomplishment.”

He hums, leaning closer. “Maybe not,” he says. “But surviving is.”

He holds her gaze for far too long, and she knows if he stays one moment longer, she’ll fuck him. “Get out of my house.”

His expression hardens and his eyes narrow. “You need me, baby. Whether you like it or not.”

He’s right, her inner Omega whispers. We need him.

“Even if that’s true, I want you gone.”

He doesn’t budge. “You’re smarter than that, Audrey,” he says. “You’re making this harder than it needs to be.”

“Stop insulting my intelligence every time you disagree with what I say,” she spits. “Now get out of my house. Leave me alone, Julian. I don’t want you.”

He scoffs, smiles to himself, and shakes his head. “Nowthat,” he murmurs, “is alie.” But he simply kisses her forehead, his lips cool against her fevered skin. “I need to wash up, anyway. I have a certain Omega’sslickall over me.”

He moves away from her, and she watches as he heads towards the door. “Dinner is in the fridge, baby. Don’t forget to take your medicine. I’ll be back soon.”

“Stop saying things like that!” she snaps. “We’re not in a relationship. This isn’t normal!”

Her words don’t deter him as he slips on his boots. “Once upon a time, it would have been,” he shrugs. “It’s not my fault the world was turned upside down.”

She stays still, watching as Pearl jumps off her scratching post and over to him. The cat nuzzles his boots, and he smiles down at her.

“Take care of Audrey for me,” he says tenderly to the feline, using a tone she’s never heard from him.

Her heart beats wildly in her chest as he meets her gaze one more time.

“Don’t forget to check your phone for the security app. To make sure no one comes in here that isn’t supposed to.”

Before Audrey can reply, he’s closing the door behind him.
