There’sa place Mindy took Audrey once for her birthday. It was a good three-hour drive, away from the suburbs and out near the ocean. It was during summer, and it was one of the best days of her life after their mom died.
Pearl went with them too, with a leash attachment so she could run across the beach.
Audrey quickly books a few nights at a small rental house in that city.
It’s off season, so she doubts anyone will be there. She just needs to get away andthink.
And she sure as hell doesn’t want to go through her Heat in her neighborhood.
She needs total privacy.
It takes less than half an hour to pack her bags and Pearl’s supplies, and then they’re driving away from her house, going above the speed limit.
For once, the cat doesn’t whine the whole time, and Audrey is eternally thankful.
It was supposed to take three hours, but they arrive at the small beach cottage in two.
It’s just as beautiful as she remembers, only chillier. The waves are gentle, the sky is overcast, and there’s tranquility for miles.
She can figure out what to do about her situation once she clears her head.
After setting up Pearl’s food bowl and litter box, she walks outside, following the stone pathway which leads to the sand.
She wouldn’t be surprised if Julian showed up here; he seems to be an expert at tracking her down, but with the crashing of the waves and the wind blowing around her, she doesn’t care.
If she’s honest with herself, a part of herhopeshe would show up, as shameful as that thought is.
Then I can push him into the ocean and watch him drown,she thinks bitterly.
But she’s not as afraid of him as she once was, and if he shows up, she’s ready for him.
Her womb cramps slightly, a telltale sign of what’s to come, and she sighs as she watches the waves.
It’s only a matter of time.
CHAPTER 12
JULIAN
He’s utterly infatuatedwith her.
He was from the moment she crept into her old place of work and sleuthed around like she was a spy.
He used to resent Abel for leaving the country and running away with his Omega, but now he understands why he did it.
He would do anything for Audrey. Worse than anything he’s ever done.
Including kidnapping her and dragging her across the Canadian border.
It’s selfish, and ofcoursehe wants her to be happy, but she doesn’t understand just yet.
They’re meant to be together.
And he’ll make her see that.
