“Julian—”

“Andthisone,” he smiles, his finger tracing the smooth scar on his neck. “This one was when they decided I was too dangerous.” The smile turns into a wolfish grin. “But they just couldn’t kill me, baby. I killed the man holding the blade instead.”

She turns her back to him and runs.

She gasps as the wind whips in her face, her feet desperately trying to carry her through the sand.

He’s terrifying, and she can’t believe she let her guard down in front of him.

She can’t believe she allowed this man—thismonsterto hold her, to make herfeel…

She races past the beach and out into a small area of trees that reaches high into the sky.

Then, she falls to her knees and lets out a sob, disgusted with herself and with him.

Even after his awful, terrifying confession, she still wants him.

Whether it be hormones, curiosity, or just attraction, she still desires him.

Slick trickles down her underwear, her nipples ache, and she hates herself.

He’s silent. She feels eyes watching her, but there’s not so much as the snap of a twig.

“Are you enjoying this?” she yells out to nothing, knowing he can hear her. “What do you want from me?”

Silence.

The horror of his world crashes down on her, and she realizes how wrong she was about everything.

He was tortured so badly he tried to end his life.

Then they forced him to take the lives of others until it became as easy as breathing.

This man that found her medicine, cooked for her, and took care of her cat, is capable of atrocities.

And she contributed to it.

She was complicit in all of it, working for a woman that knew the truth.

“Now you know everything.” His voice is behind her, low and dark. “Now you know all of who I am.”

She stands up, wipes the dirt off her legs, and turns to face him.

“I will always find you, Audrey. You can run, but I will always give chase until I’m only a breath away from you.”

Her inner Omega screams with joy at his declaration, and she hates herself for it. She wipes at a traitorous tear.

“I’ll never expect you to forgive me or pity me,” he continues, “but now you know the truth.”

Why did it have to be you?she wants to scream. Why did you have to be the one that found me?

“You frighten me,” she whispers.

“I know.”

“I don’t want you in my life,” she insists. She stares at the dirt, unable to meet his eyes.

“Part of you does,” he counters. “Part of you needs me.”
