She’s quiet as he leads her up the stone steps to the rental house, but scoffs when they approach the front door.

“How did you know?” she mutters, fishing the keys out of her pocket.

“I’m sure you already know the answer to that.” He smirks. “Ididsay I will always find you.”

When she unlocks the door, they walk inside and Pearl greets them immediately. She hops off the couch and meows happily at Julian, her claws tapping against the light wooden floor.

“I’m amazed that she likes you,” Audrey says, her tone gentler. “Usually, animals can tell when someone is a horrible person.”

The barb doesn’t hurt. He’s been called much worse.

“Maybe she just sees something you don’t.” He shrugs, reaching down to pat the cat’s belly.

“Or maybe it’s because you gave her too many treats when you broke in—oh!”

Audrey doubles over, and immediately, he’s back at her side.

Omega is hurt! Take care of Omega!

“I’ve got you,” he promises her as she leans over the top of the couch, gasping. “I’ve got you.”

His purr returns, stronger than ever, and Audrey sags against him. His cock stirs in his pants, desperate and ready for attention.

“This is your fault,” she groans. “If I hadn’t run into you…”

“You would have presented eventually,” he assures her, rubbing her back. “Sorry to break it to you that way, but you were always destined to be an Omega.”

She hisses and clutches her stomach. “Oh my god, ithurts,” she whimpers. “Why does it hurt this much? Everything is oversensitized…”

Fuck.

He needs to get this shit under control.

Her scent is cloying and thick, speaking to his inner Alpha, and he knows it’s only a matter of time before she’s desperate with need.

He needs to build her a nest.

It’s possible he knows more about what’s coming than even she does, based on what he’s studied from the stolen documents. Almost every other country besides the United States allows Alphas to help Omegas through their Heats—and it’s likely she has no idea what to expect when she’s in his presence.

“Fuck, baby, stay there,” he says. “Just stay right there. I’ll be back.”

“No,” whimpers. “Don’t leave me, Julian.”

Shit.

It’s starting.

“Lay on the couch,” he orders. “I’ll be there in just a moment.”

He grabs his pack that he left on the dining table and pulls out a syringe. He injects himself quickly, letting the intense suppressants rush through his veins while Audrey complies and lies down.

It quiets the primal need in his mind.

Then he rummages through the linen closets. He finds extra blankets and pillows and makes his way into the bedroom, where he places them on top of the already made bed.

It’s the best nest he can make in such a short amount of time, and he’s hoping she won’t reject it.

It’s theonlynest he’s made, and despite what he’s read, he still doesn’t know if he’s done it right.
