Once he saw the police officer, he knew it was too late—he didn’t have his gun with him.

But he’ll get his Omega back as soon as he can.

He’s never far from her anymore.

But as he walks back to the rental house, fury still poisoning his veins and high off his kills, he realizes it was a planned attack.

He was a target, but he doesn’t know exactly how they found him.

Carefully stepping over the carnage in the front room of the rental house, he calls someone that he had no intention of speaking to ever again.

“Hello.”

The bastard still has that air of arrogance about him, and it takes everything within Julian to not roll his eyes.

“It’s Reid.”

There’s silence on the other end of the line. “Julian?” Abel’s voice finally asks. “Is that you?”

“Who else would it be?” he snaps, already annoyed. “Are you having fun playing the hero? You’re all over the television here. Must be good for your ego.”

He’s never been the biggest fan of Abel, but they worked together to execute his plan of liberating the Alpha military base next to Lincoln City. Abel was the voice of reason, and Julian was the manipulator behind the scenes, convincing the others to join him.

“Did you call to just be an asshole? Or is there something I should know?” Abel’s pompous, arrogant tone makes Julian want to strangle him over the phone.

“Well, I just got attacked by two Betas out of nowhere,” he says. “Any militia groupsIshould know about?”

Abel swears under his breath. “Are they dead?”

“No, we’re here having a fucking tea party. You want some pictures?” Julian snaps. He doesn’t have time for Abel’s ridiculous questions.

Abel sighs into the receiver. “Well, fuck, if you want my advice, you need to get over the border. Unless you want to keep adding to your body count. Actually, you get off on that, don’t you?”

He’s going to kill Abel when all of this is over.

“Canada’s not an option yet. Just tell me what I need to know.”

“There’s a group of Beta extremists trying to turn Alphas in to the police. They’re not covering it there, but on the Canadian news, it’s a huge story.”

Julian sighs. “Of course, they’re not. Well, they fucking suck at it, because I killed two of them in less than a minute.”

Abel whistles. “Youarea lunatic.”

“Sure. I need a favor, though.”

“And why on earth would I grant you a favor?”

“Because I leaked the documents, you arrogant piece of shit. I’m the reason you’re with your bratty Omega right now.” Julian has lost all patience. It’s been less than a minute of speaking with Abel, and he feels a migraine starting between his eyes.

Fuck this.

“Talk about her like that one more time, and I’ll make sure someone kills you.”

Julian rolls his eyes. It’s not as if he’s lying; Abel’s Omega acts immature and lovesick, the exact opposite of Audrey.

But whatever. He doubts Abel would see it that way.

“I need you to pull some strings when I get across the border. I need safe passage for an Omega, too.”
