“Is Carol here? I didn’t see her?” Christian asks looking around. I shake my head and look at the floor.

“No, Mum couldn’t make it,” I say quietly, hoping to change the subject.

“Has she been to any of this week’s performances?” he asks, I can feel his eyes on me, and shake my head before turning to Maximus. I can see the question on the tip of his tongue, so I quickly change the subject, something I’m very good at when it comes to talking about Mum.

“Are we going for ice cream? Or are we going to stand here until they kick us out?” I ask looking at the four guys.

“Come on, princess. It’s my treat this time,” Sean declares as he throws his arm around my shoulder and turns me towards the door. But I don’t miss the look between them, I know they are going to bring up Mum again and I know I’m not going to be able to avoid that conversation forever.

“So, whose car are we taking?” I ask looking around the car park.

“I’ve driven tonight, you can sit in the front,” Jason says beside me as he presses his car fob and the lights flash on a black Jaguar.

“Another new car?” I ask as I walk up to it. “It’s gorgeous,” I sigh admiring its immaculate condition.

“You could have one if you stopped being stubborn and let us buy you a car,” Christian remarks holding the front passenger door open for me. I go to throw my bag in, but he takes it and my flowers before walking to the trunk. I roll my eyes as I get in.

“What’s wrong with my baby? She might not be as pretty, but I paid for her all by myself,” I point out as I climb in, and Maximus closes the door behind me.

“It’s a death trap, and you know it. I hate you driving that thing,” Jason replies as he climbs in behind the wheel.

“Some of us aren’t successful businessmen like you lot. We don’t earn hundreds of pounds a minute.”

“Thousands,” Sean calls from the back seat.

“What?” I ask frowning as I turn to face him.

“We earn thousands every minute,” he replies smirking. I flip him off before realising Christian has just climbed in beside him. Christian gives me his “dad” look and I quickly turn around mumbling a sorry under my breath as Sean laughs behind me. Christian hates it when I swear or do anything “unladylike”. I usually watch what I’m saying or doing a little more when he’s around, the twins let me get away with the odd curse word or vulgar gesture.

“Next time we are bringing two cars,” Maximus moans as he climbs in. “Or shorty is riding in the back,” he adds as the door slams shut.

“It won’t be an issue if you keep slamming my doors because you’ll be walking,” Jason warns his brother in the rear-view mirror before he pulls out of the parking space. I chuckle to myself as I sit back and relax properly for the first time in weeks.

“I’ve missed you guys,” I admit a loud.

“We’ve missed you too, sweetheart.”

I turn my head and look at Christian unable to stop the grin from spreading across my face, he instantly smiles back at me.

“Yeah?”

“Of course we have. We’ve had no one to pick on,” Maximus says behind me, before cursing as Sean hits him. “What was that for?”

“You pick on her and you have me to answer to,” Sean warns, I turn around and grin at him.

“Thank you, Sean,” I say sweetly before sticking my tongue out at Maximus.

“You’re very welcome, princess,” Sean laughs. I glance at Christian who’s shaking his head in dismay but isn’t able to wipe the smile completely off his face.

It doesn’t take long before we pull up outside the ice cream shop and all pile out of the car. We walk in together and head for our favourite booth. As always, I sit at the back with two guys on either side of me.

We’re just getting comfortable when the waitress walks over.

“I take it the ballerina has finished another show?” she asks with a grin. I look up at her smiling.

“Sure have, Hilary. How are you?”

“I’m good thanks, sugar. All the better for seeing my favourite customers,” she adds with a smile as she looks at the guys.
