“Thank you, Terry. Maybe you can give me some more stories of Christian causing trouble,” I call out.

“Baby girl!” I hear Christian growl out in warning, but I just giggle as they all walk out of view leaving me in the office alone. I look around and smile to myself before heading back to my studio to dance a little more.

I stand over two guys tied to chairs in the middle of the ring we use for underground fights.

“Christian’s here,” Jason calls as he climbs through the ropes. One of the guys starts fighting against the restraints and trying to talk through the duct tape over his mouth. I move so I’m in his line of sight and he fights harder.

“Carry on fuckface and I’ll be sure to break your jaw so you can’t speak at all,” I warn with my arms crossed over my bare chest. I’d removed my shirt before jumping these two fucks and bringing their sorry asses here.

“Is this them?”

I turn to see Christian walking to the ring.

“Yep,” Jason confirms as he holds the ropes for Christian to enter. He comes to a stop in front of the guys and looks at me. I step forward and rip off the duct tape from their mouths causing them to curse as it pulls at their facial hair.

“We were just following orders!” The blonde one, Wade, calls out.

“You weren’t followingmyorders,” Christian points out and both guys go quiet. Christian walks closer. “When Terry hired you to watch over Miss Connors, and do the odd guarding of my father, he warned you what would happen if you crossed him, or more importantly us, did he not?”

“Yes Sir, but Mr O’Reilly said …”

Christian holds his hand up and Wade stops talking instantly.

“To save confusion refer to him as Tommy, and I know what he said. That your employment had changed, that he was now in charge of your assignments and to keep what he had you doing to yourself. Does that sound right?” Christian asks and both men nod. Christian turns and looks at Jason, “You would think they’d double-check with their actual employer, wouldn’t you?”

“Especially when they know who pays their wages,” Jason adds. Both men look at each other before the bold guy Henry speaks.

“Terry told us that we had to do what Mr… I mean Tommy said!” Henry protests.

“Even if that meant lying to us?” Christian asks.

“Yes!” Henry and Wade agree. Christian nods as he turns his back to the guys and looks to the entrance of the makeshift arena. “Did you hear that Terry?”

Terry walks into view followed by two of his other guards Layton and Calvin behind him.

“I sure did.” Terry approaches the ring and climbs in. The other two stay outside but don’t take their eyes off the guys tied up.

“Did you tell your men to lie for my father?” Christian asks. Terry shakes his head and stops right in front of the guys.

“I did not.”

“You told us to do whatever Mr ... Tommy said.”

“And to report back to me. Not once did I suggest that you should lie to me or your employers,” Terry answers as he stares at them. If I was those men I would be shitting myself right now. Terry didn’t get where he is by being calm.

Terry has worked for us for at least ten years, and I know Christian and Jason trust him implicitly. He was a childhood friend of theirs who joined the marines but was injured whilst deployed. His friend Calvin was injured a little while after and Terry asked my brothers to hire him too. I personally hired Layton after seeing what he was like with Jasmine when she was intoxicated. I saw something in him I liked and after hearing how much he has put into his training I believe I made the right choice.

“Please Sir we were just doing as Tommy said. He told us he would hurt us if we didn’t.” I can see the pleading in Wade’s eyes and for a moment I actually feel a little sorry for beating the crap out of him. I know how my father can be, and I know what it’s like to be at the receiving end of his fists. But then I remember the way my shorty looks, so frail from the weight loss and her bright spirit dimed. No, they played a huge part in that, and deserve everything that they get in return.

“Because of you our woman was in danger daily, and we had no idea, purely because we trusted that you were reporting the truth,” Christian growls as he walks up to Henry and leans over him. I can see the fear in the arsehole’s eyes as they both look at Christian and wait to see what their fate is going to be.

Christian is the eldest, many people believe he’s the boss, and in a way he is. If he orders something to be done we do it, no questions asked. We got to where we are because of the decisions and sacrifices he made for us. Not just Sean and me, but Jason too. If there is to be bloodshed he does it when possible. He tried to protect us from that side of the business for as long as he could, after being forced to take his first life at just fifteen years of age. It was to pay back some of our father’s debts, and ultimately the start of our now darker lives.

I watch the interaction between Christian and the two guys who were meant to keep our Jasmine safe and protected. They aren’t going to see tomorrow. If he doesn’t kill them Terry will. There’s no room for error in this life. People have your back, or they’re against you. When people know as much as these guys know about us; the layout of our home, the security systems and whom we protect, they have to be handled properly.
