“I wouldn’t let Christian hear you using language like that.”

I turn around and find Sean leaning against the back wall. I slump down to the floor and pull off my shoes before massaging my toes as I blink back the tears that have been threatening all day.

“Layton says something or someone has upset you. What’s up, princess?” I hear Sean ask as I start pulling off my other shoe.

“Nothing,” I reply quietly, as I feel him getting closer. Sean squats down in front of me and takes my chin in his fingers before forcing me to look at him.

“Don’t lie to me. Either you tell me what’s wrong or I call in the big guns and I don’t think you are in the mood to deal with Christian right now.”

I shake my head as I feel the tears fill my eyes.

“Has it got anything to do with the fact your feet are obviously hurting you?” he asks.

“My shoes are dead and I can’t afford new ones.” I blurt out as I throw my shoe onto the floor. “The bitch Danielle spent the whole morning taking the piss because I have nothing,” I sob as Sean pulls me into his arms.

“When are you going to learn you have money now and can buy anything you need,” he sighs as he runs a hand over my head.

“You guys have money, not me. I can’t just spend it,” I protest as I pull away from him, wiping at my face feeling frustrated with myself for crying.

“Get some shoes on and meet me by the car. If you are not there in five minutes I will find you and drag you out of the house.” He doesn’t wait for me to answer before standing up and walking out of the room shouting, “move it, princess!” as he goes.

I climb to my feet and walk over to my bag to grab my slip-on shoes. I slide them onto my sore feet and quickly turn everything off before leaving, knowing that Sean will drag me out of here if I try and hide from him.

I reach the car in time to see him ending a call on his phone. He turns around and looks at me smiling.

“Do I need to tell Layton I’m leaving?” I ask looking around.

“Already done. Now come on I want ice cream, but we have to make a stop first.” He holds the passenger door of his Jag for me. I quickly climb in and do my seatbelt up as Sean climbs in behind the wheel.

“Why aren’t you working?” I ask as he presses the button to open the garage door.

“Because I couldn’t be arsed today. I trained all morning and fancied skiving the afternoon,” he explains before looking at me grinning. “Bonus of being a rich bastard, I get to take time off and spend it with my favourite person, whenever I feel like it,” he throws in a wink for good measure as I roll my eyes. Sean pulls out of the garage and heads to the gates; they open automatically, and he drives through.

Sean puts his stereo on, and Nickelback fills the silence. Maximus and Sean always put on my favourite band whenever I’m in the car with them, even though they say they can’t stand them. Sean doesn’t say anything when I turn it up a little louder. He reaches over and takes my hand, giving me time to clear my head and letting me know that he’s there if I need him. I’m so glad it was Sean who found me first today.

“Did Layton call you before?” I ask turning to look at him.

“He knew I was home and came to find me,” he answers as he stops at a traffic light. He turns to look at me. “He was worried, apparently you looked ready to cry when you came out of the school.”

I turn and look back out the window, as I blink back tears again. Sean squeezes my hand and carries on driving. Not saying anything, just letting me process.

We come to a stop outside of the shop I buy my dance clothes and shoes from. I don’t know why I didn’t see this coming. I should have known he would bring me here. I turn and frown at him only to receive one raised eyebrow in return.

“Don’t look like that, I’m not buying your shoes, you are.”

“With what money?” I sigh shaking my head.

“Withyourmoney.”

“I don’t have any,” I point out.

“Yes, you do, you have twelve thousand pounds, and an unlimited overdraft,” Sean answers as he holds out my bank card. When I don’t make a move to take it, he sighs and forces it into my hand. “For the eighteen months you were living in the house, you paid six hundred pounds each month to Tommy. That money has been returned to youby him.”

“You mean you guys made him pay it back.” I point out.

“Of course, we did! He stole that from you, princess! He had no right to take any money from you. We gave him plenty to live off. He is a selfish prick, and you did not deserve to be treated like that!” Sean explodes, I lean back in my chair a little as I watch him run his hand over his face and take a deep breath.

“You are one of the sweetest people I have ever met. I hate that others see the kindness in you and use it to their advantage.”
