“I don’t know, they just keep asking what Jasmine would say if she knew the truth about me. How do I sleep at night knowing I destroyed a family? Why should I get to move on when his family are still struggling? I would think they were trying to blackmail me, but they aren’t doing anything but taunting me with old shit.” I watch as he downs his drink and lets out a deep sigh.

“Did you ever find out anything about them?” I ask. This is why Christian never kills someone with a family, that first time he had no choice, but he knew he was making a child fatherless. He swore he would never do that again unless that child was better off without the parent, and he hasn’t.

“I just sent a couple of letters and then a large check, pretending to be him as you know. I sent a second check, but it never got cashed and when I checked up they had moved as I had suggested.”

I know it took Christian a long time to get over that kill, it’s like a part of him died with the guy. He was given no choice but to kill him, it was him or me. The guy even told Christian to do it to protect me and his child, which made it harder on Christian.

“Do you think they will use Jasmine to get to you?” I know he would never allow any harm to come to that woman, he would die before someone hurt her to get to him.

“I don’t know, so I have given her security a heads up. They will be keeping a closer eye on her when she isn’t with us.”

Christian stands up and heads to the bar. I hold out my glass for him to give me a top-up when a deep yell sounds through the house.

“What the fuck?” I jump to my feet as a laughing Jasmine rushes into the room and runs to Christian.

“Hide me!”

Seconds later Maximus storms into the room dripping with water, with an evil smirk on his face. Jasmine and I burst out laughing as he points at our girl.

“Get here now brat.”

Jasmine hides behind Christian shaking her head.

“Daddy, save me,” she begs as Maximus takes a step forward and I see Sean standing behind him smiling as he watches the two of them.

“What did you do?” Christian sighs as he looks at Jasmine who stares up at him like butter wouldn’t melt.

“Daddy Max says he was hot, so I cooled him down,” she answers innocently.

“By spraying a bottle of water in my face!” Maximus adds.

“But it cooled you down!” Jasmine points out as I burst out laughing. Christian turns and looks at her shaking his head.

“You really expect me to save you when you bring it on yourself?” he asks her with arched brows.

“Yes! You always save me!” she protests.

“Not this time, Maximus she’s all yours,” he announces smiling as he moves out of the way. Jasmine screams as she tries to run but Maximus manages to grab her and throw her over his shoulder before marching out of the room.

“Daddy, you traitor!” Jasmine shouts pointing at Christian who is smiling at her. I laugh and her focus snaps to me.

“You are just as bad!” she yells pointing.

“Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time, Jazzy!” I yell as Maximus carries her away. The rest of us stay in the room laughing as we hear Jasmine’s protests getting quieter as he carries her probably to his room.

“Well, I don’t expect to see them for the rest of the night,” Sean laughs as he walks out shaking his head. “I’m going for a shower then to bed. Shout if I’m needed for anything,” he calls disappearing.

I look back to Christian who’s still grinning as he looks at the open door.

“No matter what we’ve done in the past Christian just think that we now have that woman in our lives making the darkest days brighter.”

Christian looks at me and nods before looking to the door again.

“You aren’t wrong there; I will kill anyone who ever tries to put out the light in her.”
