I hate this, I hate not knowing what’s going on. I need to know that Jason’s going to be okay. The thought of anything happening to him, or of us losing him makes my chest hurt so much that I gasp for air against the pain. We can’t lose him; we wouldn’t survive it. Jason is our voice of reason, the one we all go to as a bounding board. If Christian is being unreasonable, I can almost guarantee Jason will back me up. I can’t lose him, I can’t lose any of them.

“Sweetheart?”

My head snaps up to the sound of Christians voice. I look to the door and see him standing there. My lungs fill with air to the point they hurt when I spot the blood smeared on his bare chest.

When I walked in and saw him covered in Flint’s blood, I didn’t even think about what that meant. But seeing him now with Jason’s blood on him, makes my mind race with a hundred different scenarios. How many times has he been stabbed? How deep did the knife go? Were any vital organs damaged?

“Is he…?” I stop mid-sentence, I don’t know whether I want to ask if he’s okay or …

Christian strides across the room and pulls me to him as I desperately try to get some air into me.

“He’s okay sweetheart, I promise he’s going to be all right.”

Air is forced from my lungs as I let out a sob against his chest.

“The doctor’s still with him. But he’s fixed him up and said he is going to make a full recovery.” I pull back from him as I wipe the tears from my face.

“Can I see him?”

Christian nods and holds his hand out for me to take. He grabs a top from his wardrobe before we leave and leads me out of the room and towards Jason’s. He stops with his hand on the door.

“Two things before you go in sweetheart.”

I look up at him and hold my breath.

“Jason is sedated and won’t wake up for a while. The Doctor had to stitch him up and it was better for him to be asleep for that.”

I nod and watch as Christian takes a deep breath.

“You also need to prepare yourself. Jason suffered a wound to his face. It luckily missed his eye, but he will have a scar down one side.”

I bite my lip and nod again, not knowing what to say or do. My Jaw clenches as I force myself to swallow back the tears.

“Was Daddy Max with him?” I ask quietly. Christian nods and cups my cheek.

“Maximus is fine and managed to get Jason back here quickly. He needs his shorty though,” Christian says as he gives me a small smile. I nod and look back at the door as fear nearly has me running in the opposite direction. But Jason and Maximus have been there so many times for me in the past I need to be strong and be here for them now. I take a deep breath and open the door to Jasons room.

Inside the first thing I see is Sean standing by Jasons bed with his arms crossed over his chest as he looks down at his brother. I feel Christian place a hand on the base of my back and softly guide me into the room. Sean turns and looks at me and offers me a soft smile. His face is pale, and he too has blood on his top.

“Come here, princess,” he whispers holding out his arm. I rush to his side as he hugs my shoulders and holds me close. I look down at the bed and see Jason lying there looking peaceful as he sleeps.

Christian wasn’t wrong about his face, I have to hold in a sob as I look down and see the long slash cut from his left eyebrow down to his jaw. It looks red and angry, and there are butterfly strips across it in a couple of areas where the wound is deeper.

“Is he in pain?” I ask as I look up at the doctor who is on the other side of the bed. He looks at me and smiles at me as he shakes his head.

“Not at the moment, he is heavily sedated and will remain so for a while to give his body time to heal.” I can see a bag of blood and fluids on a stand which are being pumped into Jason.

“Shouldn’t he be in a hospital?” I ask looking at Christian. He lets out a deep sigh before shaking his head.

“In the ideal world yes. But the hospital staff would ask too many questions. Dr Evans is perfectly capable of dealing with anything we throw at him and has access to all the equipment and supplies we need. We pay him enough to be the best.”

“That almost sounds like a compliment, O’Reilly,” Doctor Evans says from where he is rummaging in his bag.

“Yeah well, you just saved my brother’s life. I’ll be nice for a little while at least.” I see a smirk on Christian’s face and wonder how long Doctor Evans has worked for them and how many times he has patched them up.

I’m just about to ask when the sound of the bedroom door opening stops me. A very worn-out Maximus walks in. As soon as he sees me he freezes and stares like he doesn’t know what to say or do. I step away from Sean and rush forward, throwing my arms around Maximus’s neck as I bury my head in his neck, breathing in his scent as I hold him tight. Thankful that he too isn’t as injured as Jason. I honestly don’t know how any of us would handle them both having been stabbed. For a second he freezes before wrapping his arms around me and holding me like he is clinging to life support.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t prevent this shorty,” he whispers into my neck, his whole body shaking as he desperately tries to hold it together. I pull away from him and run my hand down his cheek.
