She feared she was already obsessed with it.

It’s just a penis, idiot. Lots more of them walking about, you know. Dmitri’s is nothing special.

But that was absurd, of course. Whatever was going on between them, it was no prosaic boy-meets-girl situation.

Surreal, out of body experience gets a little closer to the truth, don’t you think?

It wasn’t time to obsess over their budding… dynamic. Or whatever one called what was going on between them.

There was a hint of mirth in Dmitri’s deep voice. “You still there, agent?”

“Yeah… yeah, just a lot to think about here.”

The most obvious question was: who knew it? But it was unlikely Dmitri would have any more insight into that than she would.

“Why haven’t they told us what’s really going on here?” She didn’t want to think about it too hard at this point, knowing what the answer to the question might imply.

Dealing with the heat was making it tough for her to even concentrate though. It was all she could do not to beg to jump on his cock. The fact was, fucking him—and what he could do to her body with that cock—was essentially on her mind at this point… constantly.

“Is there anything else I need to know before I make that call to Whitlow?” The chair legs screeched harshly against the wood floor as he dragged his seat back over to the dresser. “Anything that might lessen the chance I’m going to be a dead wolf in the next day or so?”

“There… there might be one other thing. Though I can’t really figure out what it has to do with this…”

“Tell me, agent.”

She pulled the towel from her hair, cursing softly under her breath to find the locks still mostly damp. She wrapped it about her shoulders then, grateful to at least be able to use it to hide her naked breasts from his much-too-intense gaze. “It was a problem I was just beginning to hear about before, well, youknow.”

Dmitri flashed her a half smile. “Go on.”

“The FMB has been struggling—for a while now, actually—with a problem of suspected or officially presenting omegas vanishing before they can be picked up and auctioned.”

“You mean… they’re fleeing? Or being kidnapped?” The grave tone of Dmitri’s words confirmed one thing Stacy hadn’t expected—that this was the first time he’d heard the news.

“Both? The FMB still isn’t sure, or if they are, they aren’t telling the agents. A few of the families of the omegas reported that shortly before an omega’s disappearance, someone had come to visit them. Apparently, those visitors appear to have convinced the omegas to go with them. Or something. Whatever it was, subsequent to those visits—poof, omega gone.”

“How many?”

“At least five that they disclosed to us.” She shook her head bitterly. “Which probably means it’s more…”

“It’s what I’d assumed,” he said, softly. He said something under his breath in a language she didn’t understand, but she had no doubt it was a curse.

He sat down on the bed next to her, and the urge to press her body to him suddenly became even worse.

Fuck…

“It seems we both had some news for each other today,” he murmured, almost as if he were talking to himself. “We’ve—our nation—we’ve never been toldanythingabout this.”

The seething anger in his words had her instantly on edge. It was she after all who used to work for the same organization that had been keeping this from the wolves.

It was more than a treaty violation. It was a rank betrayal.

“We always assumed that any omegas that were identified or presented, the FMB always grabbed them and there was no real issue with it. Seems our confidence in you humans was… misplaced.

You’re in trouble here.

“Not me.” She barely croaked the words, unaccountably ashamed on the part of her erstwhile employer. “I didn’t keep this from you.”

“Didn’t you though?”
