“Over there to the right,” the woman said, pointing to a nearby area. “I’ll only be a moment.”

As she moved away, Ellie headed to the display of jeans, but it was only a few minutes later an attractive young woman walked up.

“Ellie? Hello, I’m Tiffany, Clint’s fiancee,” she declared. “You’re a friend of Noah’s?”

“I am, and I’m brand new to riding. He suggested I come here to pick up a pair of riding jeans, but from the looks of things I’ll be walking out with a whole lot more than that.”

“It’s hard to restrain yourself in this place,” Tiffany replied with a grin. “Let’s start with the basics and go from there.”

Bethany was furious.

She’d just returned home and found David Graham, the Director of Security from the Lumber Yard, wandering around the house. He’d told her he was there to investigate the strange noises Eleanor had been hearing.

Knowing there was nothing she could do or say to stop him, Bethany walked into the kitchen to brew some coffee, only to discover the pantry had been cleaned out, including the boxes of expensive cakes and cookies from Matilda’s Munchies.

“This is such bullshit,” she grunted under her breath.

“What is?”

The deep male voice startled her.

Spinning around, she saw a tall, handsome man wearing a plaid shirt, jeans, and cowboy boots.

“Who are you, and why did you creep up on me like that?”

“My name’s Matt Thompson, I’m working with David Graham, and I didn’t creep up. I guess you were so deep in thought you didn’t hear me.”

“Oh, well, nice to meet you,” she managed, trying to calm down.“I’m Bethany MacDonald, I’m staying here for a while.”

The guy was ridiculously attractive, with wide shoulders, muscles bulging through his shirt, and dark brown eyes.

“Nice to meet you too, Bethany. What has you so upset?”

“Tom’s daughter has cleared out the pantry and she had no right. I bought all that stuff. It was mine!”

“How do you know it was her?”

“There’s no-one else around except the housekeeper, and she doesn’t come in today. You’ll have to excuse me. I need to go into town. At the very least I’ll be replacing the bakery goods.”

“Miss McDonald—“

“Please call me Bethany.”

“Bethany, before you go, the wine cellar appears to be locked.”

“Yes, Tom has some rare bottles.”

“Where do you keep the keys?”

“Oh, uh, I’m not sure.”

“Never mind, I’ll call him.”

“Wait…I remember now…in the table against the wall in the foyer. It only has one drawer. But it’s just heaps of wine racks. Besides, I’m sure Eleanor is just making up all that crap about weird noises to get her father’s attention. I’ve never heard anything.”

She waited for a response, but the hot cowboy just nodded and walked away. Letting out an exasperated sigh, she headed to the motor court, but as she climbed into her car a worried frown crossed her brow. Lifting her phone from her bag, she placed a call.
