Cruz had been watchingthe gentle rise and fall of Eden's chest as she lay on her back in the early morning light. She had obviously had her breasts enlarged. He didn’t mind one way or the other… It wasn’t so much about the way a person looked, although he did have to admit that that was what attracted him in the first place. What really attracted him, though, was always the personality of the person…her true self…and he was looking forward to finding out exactly who Eden really was.

She rolled over onto her side and her eyes fluttered open and the minute she saw him, a smile spread across her face. She looked so beautiful.

“Hey, Edie, good sleep?” he said.

“I was so tired,” she said. “Slept like a baby.” She giggled.

“Want breakfast?” he asked.

“Sure. What's on the menu?”

He got out of bed and walked over to the table and picked up the motel brochure, opening it at the menu and handing it to her. “I already know what I’m ordering but you might want to have a look at this.”

She didn’t even bother looking. “I’ll have what you having,” she said.

“What if it’s something you don’t like?”

“I'll eat anything,” she said.

He liked that. She might have a lot of money, but she wasn’t too precious. “Well, for me it’s poached eggs, bacon, hash browns, fried tomatoes, toast, coffee…”

“It sounds like you’re ordering everything on the menu,” she said.

“I’ll just call reception and ask forle grand petit-déjeuner.”

She laughed at that. “And what exactly is ale grand petit-déjeuner?” she asked.

“Well, since we are in New Orleans I decided to order in French.Petit-déjeuneris breakfast, and I want a big breakfast… so that’s why I add the ‘le grand.’”

She laughed again. “You might need one of those translation apps before you decide to go to France if this how you intend to talk,” she said.

He’d go anywhere with her by his side, but he had to agree that not too many people would be able to understand him if he decided to talk French.

He called reception and ordered breakfast for two and set about preparing for the day.

Eden went into the bathroom to freshen up, and when she came back out, her phone rang at the same time as there was a knock on the door.

Cruz opened the door to see their breakfast had arrived and while he was talking to, and tipping, the female room server, he was eavesdropping on Eden’s conversation at the same time.

“Hey, baby, how are you?” she said. He didn't know who was on the other end of the line, so he listened to the one-sided conversation. She continued. “Yes, yes, I know…but I’ll always call you baby. Yes, I know you're a big boy now, but you’ll always be my little baby.”

Shit, she’s got a kid.He wasn’t concerned that she had a child, but he found it strange that she hadn’t mentioned a son yet. He wondered why she was traveling across the country on the back of a bike when she had her son back home.Maybe she’s divorced. He kept listening.

“I’ve got a surprise for you. No, no, you can’t go running off now. I tell you where it is, but you have to hand the phone to Daddy before you go hunting for it.”

Okay, so Daddy is at home with her son… I wonder where that is?

“So, it’s in my bedroom.”Well, they must still be married if daddy and her son are in her house.“What…you found it already? I hope you enjoy it, Nate.”So, the son’s name is Nate.“Yes, I love you too. Can you hand the phone to Daddy now?” she said.

“Hey, Tomas.”Tomas. Tomas and Nate. Tomas, Nate, and Eden. Hmm.

“Excuse me, sir. Will that be all?” Cruz hadn’t realized he’d stopped listening to the girl at the door.

“Yes, thanks.” He took the breakfast over to the table while facing away from Eden, so it didn’t appear as though he was listening. He shuffled with the plate making a little noise but not enough so he couldn’t hear her.

She continued her conversation with Tomas. “I left the house keys and my phone on the dining table when I rushed out yesterday. Yeah, just put them anywhere in the bedroom. Greyhound? No, not yet. No, I didn’t make it in time, so I had to stay overnight in a motel. No, that’s okay…I’ll be leaving fairly soon after breakfast. Yeah, I’m looking forward to it. I really think I need this break. Yeah, you too. Love you. Bye.”
