I froze. “What time is it?”

He raised a questioning brow. “A little after three p.m.,” he answered. “You’ve been asleep for a while.”

“You flew here?”

He swallowed. “I panicked.”

“People saw you….” I trailed off. “Yourwings, Sariel.”

“Dessi’ll alter their memories. They’ll only remember two white wings. Hopefully.”

I tried to sit up, and Sariel immediately moved to help me, propping pillows behind me to help me up. As I was moving and the sheets slipped, I realized that I was naked beneath them. The material dragged against my pebbled nipples, making me hiss at the contact.

Sariel and I both froze.

I clutched the sheets to my chest. “I’m… did you…?”

“No, Dessi needed to—”

“Oh my God.” I groaned. “She saw me naked?!”

“It’s how she works best, Aria. She healed your wounds,” Sariel attempted to placate me. “I didn’t know what was wrong, and Dessi needed to see—”

“Were you in the room?” I interrupted.

Sariel’s silence gave him away. I sank deeper into the bed.

He sighed through his nose. “It’s nothing I haven’t seen before.”

“You haveneverseenmenaked before,” I stressed, clutching the sheets closer to me like a shield. Mortification warmed my cheeks as I avoided his gaze.

“Aria,” he started, running his hands down his face. “I was too worried about youdyingto give a fuck what you look like naked. It took me forty-five minutes to get here. I thought I was carrying yourcorpse.”

His voice broke at the end of his sentence.

“Oh,” I said, because what else could I say?

“Yeah,oh.” He chuckled dryly. “I can get you something to wear. I’m sure Dessi has something that might fit—”

“I do,” Dessi interrupted, stepping into the room.

She was stunning. Her hair was so dark, it gleamed blue, hanging in a long, thick braid to the back of her knees, with shorter pieces framing her heart-shaped face and big almond eyes. Her russet skin was littered with small tattoos.

Her arms were laden with golden bangles, each of her fingers bearing a small golden ring, some even holding two or three. Her ears were pierced from top to bottom, twin hoops went through her bottom lip, and tiny studs decorated both nostrils. She wore a long skirt that covered her feet and a graphic t-shirt that’d been cut to just beneath her breasts. It exposed her midriff and the ruby diamond hanging from her belly button.

“I did them myself,” she said, as if she’d read my mind. “The piercings, I mean.”

She was carrying a pile of neatly-folded clothes in one palm and a tray of food in the other. Sariel hurried to take the latter from her, then laid it on the bed next to me.

“They’re beautiful,” I admitted.

In the back of my head, I remembered that this woman had been intimately involved with Sariel before, and my wolf came awake with a violent shudder. She nosed at my control gently; I sighed at the familiar feeling.

“Thank you,” she sniffed. “I brought you some things to wear.”

She placed the pile at the foot of the bed. “Sariel hasn’t told me much about what he’s doing here, but I assume it has everything to do with you.”

I didn’t like the flash of greed I saw cross her features as her eyes took me in on the bed.
