Speaking of which…

I swallowed as I thought about what I had almost told him. I owed him an apology for that, yes, but I was sticking to my beliefs. The more we ran, the more people were likely to be caught up in our drama, and the more people there would be for the Upper Council, or Azazel, or who knew who else to sink their claws into under the pretense of finding runaway prisoners and abominations.

After the meeting, I held my silence, as petty it was. I escaped alone to our shared room for a shower, found clothes in the closet that fit me a little big, and learned to work the TV.

Sariel didn’t return to our room until a little after four. He paused when he found me cuddling a pillow, all curled up watching Criminal Minds.

Our eyes met briefly, after which I felt his angel surge toward the bond.

I knew his angel probably wasn’t happy about the silence in much the same way my wolf had been sulking all afternoon. She was laying on her tummy, paws over her eyes, and had been in that position ever since our little fight. I didn’t care how upset she was—Sariel’s view was unacceptable for both of us.

I heard him gulp hard, and watched out of the corner of my eye as he disappeared into the bathroom for a shower. My wolf perked up when the water started up, and a zing of arousal shot through me as she projected an image of our mate in the shower. It might not be an entirely accurate one, but it was enough to get my heart pumping.

I imagined him all slick and soapy, a trail of water running down his throat, between his pecs, taking the path between the carved muscles of his abs, and disappearing into a neatly trimmed patch of auburn curls…

I quickly sat up, threw off the cover, and attempted to make the bed in an effort to distract myself from the heat that had blossomed in my core due to the imagery.

There was no question about whether he was a natural redhead. That hair color was hereditary.

I snapped out of my reverie when the bathroom door opened and the man in question stepped out, bare-chested. One of his hands was drying his hair with a towel, and the other was holding up a second towel wrapped around his waist.

Before I could check myself, my eyes landed on a certain part of him that I’d felt yesterday.

I was no virgin, so I could appreciate when a man was well-endowed. And Sariel was…verywell-endowed.

“Looked your fill, pup?”

His voice made me jump. I gathered myself up and met his teasing smirk with a weak glare. I couldn’t muster anything more powerful.

“Yes,” I answered, pretending not to hear the shakiness in my own voice, “I have.”

“You can look some more. It’s all yours.”

I wanted to slap his stupidly pretty face for saying the right thing, even though I wasn’t even aware it was the right thing until he said it.

“Put some clothes on,” I huffed out.

He sauntered back into the bathroom with a quiet chuckle.

When he reemerged he was dressed in a nice, short-sleeved button down and sweat shorts. I’d crawled back beneath the sheets and began to flick through Netflix shows, but I looked away to squint at him when he moved to the closet and pulled out a cute dress. It was burgundy with tiny black birds flying across it, a flared bottom, and spaghetti straps.

“Put this on,” he brought the dress to the bed and placed it near my head. “I’ll get you a cardigan.”

I stared dumbly after him as he disappeared into the closet again. When he came back I was in the same position.

“Do you need help getting dressed?” he inquired, reaching for the covers.

“For what? I’m not going anywhere with you,” I huffed, clutching the sheet tighter to my body and turning back to the TV.

“Oh.”

He backed away from the bed quietly. There was something in his voice that made the bond squirm uncomfortably. “Uh, alright then. I’ll, um…”

He was nervous and cute when he was disappointed. I was going to cave if he kept twining his fingers together the way he was as he retreated.

“...just get out of your hair.”

“Wait,” I said, before I could think better of it. “Just… wait. Give me… give me five minutes to get dressed.”
