“Look, Macey—”

“Just give me a few days...please?” I don’t know why I’m making it sound like a request. I don’t need his permission to kick him out of my own house. Bloody hell...how is he under my skin like this?

“You still want to do the list?” he asks, almost hopefully .

“I...don’t know. Maybe.”

He nods. “Alright. A few days then.” And then he’s gone.

Alastor

Iturn over for about the hundredth time, pounding my fist into my pillow once again. It’s so fucking hot in my room. That’sthe reason I haven’t been able to get to sleep tonight; it has nothing whatsoever to do with a guilty conscience.

Okay, maybe a tiny part of me feels guilty for what I did to Jack all those years ago. But as I tried to explain today, it was an honest mistake. And let’s not pretend he wasn’t a total dick to me even before that incident.

I let out a frustrated groan and finally sit up in bed, resting my elbows on my knees and digging my fingers into my hair. Fucking hell, I shouldn’t be so worked up about this. It wastwenty years ago,and I can’t stand the guy; why should I let a dumbarse mistake I made as a teenager bother me so much now when it hasn’t even pinged on the radar all this time?

Because you never apologised for it, you arsehole.Fuck. Okay, yeah, I’m officially feeling guilty. And the fact that Jack’s still clearly upset about it after all these years isn’t helping.

I need to figure out a way to apologise and somehow make this up to him. Although I have no idea if something this big can even be made up for.

“Mate, what the fuck? We already cut the screen for that order.”

I glance up to find Toby, one of the guys who works for me, staring at me with wide eyes, clearly wondering why I was about to cut a shower screen when the finished one is already sitting right there waiting for installation.

I give a sharp shake of my head. “Fuck, I’m a bit distracted today.”

“Totally a good idea to be using heavy machinery then,” he says wryly.

“Have you set up a time to install that yet?”

He nods. “Yeah, tomorrow morning.”

I nod and give him a slap on the back as I move past

him. “Awesome.”

“Hey, Alastor!” Renee, our secretary slash bookkeeper

slash general lifesaver comes rushing up to me, a frown of disapproval on her face.

“What did I do this time?” I ask warily.

“Not you.” She gives an annoyed shake of her head. “That Claudia woman wants to know if you can install her walk-in next week.”

I stare at Renee in confusion. “Xav hasn’t done the tiles yet.”

“She got someone else to do them. Said it was taking too long.”

I let out a growl of annoyance. Now I know why Renee looks so pissed off. “We told her March when she booked the job.” I swear, people think just because contestants onThe Blockcan make bathrooms happen in a couple of days it’ll be like that when they decide to renovate. Newsflash: it’s not. “Bloody hell. You didn’t tell her Xav’s away, did you?”

“Of course not. I just told her he’s not available.” “Well, she’s not getting her fucking deposit back.”

“So can you do next week?” Renee presses.

I consider saying no, but that’ll just result in me losing
